Today the Vermont Police Association remembers the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of the first responders and ordinary Americans who ran toward danger when others were trying to escape.

Let us honor those heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, not only by remembering their names and their bravery, but by also recognizing those who continue to walk in their footsteps today. Every firefighter, police officer, EMT, service member, healthcare worker, and first responder who chooses a life of public service carries forward a legacy built on courage, duty, and selflessness.

May we never allow the passage of time diminish the significance of that day or the sacrifices made. May we also never take for granted those who continue to answer the call to serve and protect their communities, knowing the risks service carry.

Never forget. 🇺🇸

Burlington is at a critical breaking point.

City councilors keep saying what’s being done isn’t working but they don’t want to go backwards. Backward to what? When Burlington was safer, cleaner, and thriving?

Burlington became the only municipality in Vermont to defund its police department. Since then, we’ve all watched as officer staffing plummet and the people who do put on the badge have too often been treated as the problem instead of part of the solution.

In the 1990s, New York City dramatically reduced crime by taking public safety seriously and addressing the visible signs of disorder alongside more serious crime. Burlington doesn’t have to be New York to learn from what works.

Supporting public safety isn’t a radical idea, it’s common sense. Safe neighborhoods, thriving businesses, and vibrant downtowns don’t happen by accident. They happen when laws are enforced, people are held accountable, and police officers are supported instead of vilified.

Burlington doesn’t need more excuses. It doesn’t need more negative rhetoric directed at the men and women who protect our communities.

It needs leadership to take accountability, show appreciation, get back to the basics, and restore the Queen City to the place people loved.

It’s time to stop kicking the can down the road.

Burlington deserves better.

Have you seen the latest edition of 802Spirits Magazine yet? OY6 Bourbon is being featured by the Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery in their quarterly Rack Program!

On Your 6 was founded on a simple but powerful mission: to celebrate the everyday heroes who serve and strengthen their communities. Rather than building a celebrity brand, the company shines a spotlight on those who quietly make a difference every day including, law enforcement officers, firefighters, nurses, veterans, and others.

As part of this special event, Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery Investigator Eugene Gaiotti, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, is being recognized by On Your 6 as the featured hero story.

We’re especially grateful to On Your 6 who has selected the Vermont Police Association as the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold. These funds will directly support the VPA’s Gene Gaiotti Memorial Scholarship, helping carry Officer Gaiotti’s legacy forward by investing in the future of Vermont’s law enforcement community.

Thank you to the entire On Your 6 team and the Vermont Department of Liquor and Vermont Lottery. Together we honor those who have served, remember those we have lost, and support those who’ll answer the call in the future. 🇺🇸💙
