Some days are spent on the road. 🚗
Our Executive Director has made consistent monthly trips to Mobile, Alabama, to advocate for three children with intellectual disabilities and autism who were placed in foster care far from our local area.
These children face unique challenges and require steady advocacy, monitoring, and encouragement to make sure their needs are being met. Several of them experienced multiple placement changes in a short period of time, increasing their vulnerability and emotional stress. One child alone moved up to 11 times, creating significant instability during an already difficult season of life.
Those regular, in-person visits made a real difference. They allowed our Executive Director to check in on each child's safety and well-being, coordinate with caregivers and service providers, and advocate for the most stable and appropriate placements possible. Just as importantly, the visits offered reassurance and emotional encouragement to children who often feel forgotten during frequent moves.
When a child is placed hours away from home, distance can easily become a barrier to the advocacy they deserve. At Shoals CASA, we're committed to making sure it never is. Every child deserves a consistent, caring presence. Someone who shows up, speaks up, and keeps showing up, no matter how far the drive.
