The Sheffield Beautification and Tree Board is appointed by the Sheffield City Council, and is made up of nine members. One member is designated per each of the five Sheffield City Council Districts with an additional four at large members, who have some expertise or other qualification consistent with the board's mission. The SBTB meets monthly on the 2nd Monday

at 5pm at the Sheffield Recreation Center, located at 2901 E 19th Ave, Sheffield, AL 35660 - and can be contacted by emailing “[email protected]”. The beautification and tree board shall act in an advisory capacity to the mayor and city council relating to the beautification of the city and the planting, maintenance and removal of street trees and park trees. The board shall promote public interest in the general improvement of the appearance and cleanliness of the city. Duties shall include collaboration with other city government departments and boards; community volunteer and civic organizations; and interested individuals to plan, propose, promote and implement measures to improve the cleanliness and beauty of the city. The beautification and tree board shall hear requests by property owners for maintenance or removal of street trees and park trees and approve or deny permits authorizing applicants to maintain or remove street trees and park trees. The SBTB is responsible for the Yard of the Month awards. They help with the City Christmas Tree decorations and Christmas Parade. They conduct Arbor Day celebrations and maintain the City's Tree City USA designation. The SBTB has broad authority and opportunities to pursue projects to improve the beauty and cleanliness of the City. SBTB members have the opportunity to make a difference in the appearance of the City, manage the inventory of trees on City property and have a positive influence on the quality of life of its citizens and visitors.

Today we will celebrate Sheffield being Tree City for the 24th year in a row! Please join us for the tree planting today at 2pm at Sheffield City Hall.

Contact city hall for a parade application if you would like to join in on the fun! We had a HUGE turn out last year with local businesses, school groups, SEVERAL non-profits, The Sound of the Shoals Marching Band, Keep The Shoals Beautiful and of course, SANTA!!

Sheffield was selected as the Alabama Arbor Day City of the Year for 2024 by the Alabama Forestry Association!

Join us Friday, February 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Sheffield City Hall where Dr. David West of the Alabama Cooperative Extension and Alabama Urban Forestry Association will make a presentation and Sheffield will be presented with a proclamation from Governor Kay Ivy. The Sheffield Beautification and Tree Board's own member, Johnnie Everitt, will be giving away free tree seedlings as well!
