Due to recent rains the flow rate of the creek is at a high rate and given 65% chance of thunderstorms on Friday night I’ve decided to cancel the kayak trip. Safety comes first and I believe the water will too much for young and or new kayakers. We will reschedule or a later date.

Mr. Fred Lee Ricks, III was born on April 21, 1957, in Colbert County, Alabama to the late Fred Ricks, Jr. and Della Pearl Marshall Ricks. He went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Fred served his country as a U.S. Marine Corporal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Ricks, Jr. and Della Pearl Marshall Ricks.

He leaves to cherish his memories:

Five daughters, Temicca Qualls of Madison, AL, Trista (Richard) Qualls-Franks of Sheffield, AL, Lisa Harden of Leighton, AL, Levada Franklin of Decatur, AL, and Ashley Harden of Tuscumbia, AL; one son, Dominique Abernathy of Sheffield, AL; two brothers, Arthur (Ranell) Ricks and George (Veronica) Ricks, both of Leighton, AL; three sisters, Anita (Ozzie) Carter of Muscle Shoals, AL, Barbara King, Angela (Mary) Ricks, both of Leighton, AL; twelve grandchildren, Shaquille Qualls, Shamela Sok, Tristian Qualls, E.J. Qualls, Maliyah Qualls, Abigail Bennett, Treasure Nalls, Derrick Franks, Cameron Franks, Tristan Franks, Ka’Dence Abernathy, and Kamauri Abernathy; four great-grandchildren, Thalia Sok, Nara Sok, Kah’lel Davis, and Archer Sok; two uncles, Willie T. Ricks and Thomas Lee Marshall; four aunts, Shirley Muldrew, Helen Marshall, Clementine Marshall of Town Creek, AL, and Helen Ricks of Leighton, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Rest easy brother, Semper Fidelis
LeRoy Franklin Brownell, Sr. 82, of Tuscumbia, AL passed on May 22, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Jeremy Sanderson will be officiating.
He was a kind sincere and devoted man whose smiling face brought joy to those he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Etta Brownell.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Malone Brownell; sons, LeRoy Franklin Brownell, Jr. (Deborah) and Craig Braly; daughter, Heide Gerrald; grandchildren, Jessica Kissam (Dustin), Zachery Gerrald, Shelby Liddell (Adam), Chloe Brownell-Rodriquez (Gabriel), Cody Braly (Shayla), and Chase Braly; great grandchildren, Madeleine Braly, Espynn Braly, Lakelynn Braly, and Jase Kissam; and special pet, Abby.
