Events and posters. for the week of June 7th at Kohler Andrae!

Wildflowers & Wild Trees Walk
SUNDAY, JUNE 7
11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Join naturalist Phyllis McKenzie in search of wildflowers and trees blooming along the trail while learning about Wisconsin’s native pollinators, too. Will we see trilliums, meadow rue or mayapples? Which trees will be in bloom? Which pollinators will we find?

Meet at the Black River Trail, parking lot P1. We suggest bringing water, sunscreen, and bug spray and wearing long pants, long sleeves and comfortable hiking shoes for this 1.5 – 2 mile walk on grass and earthen trails. Please note that there are no bathrooms or water available at this location. The nearest bathrooms are vault toilets at the North Beach parking lot or at the Park Office. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Discovery Bird Walk (meets weekly)
TUESDAY, JUNE 9
8:00 – 10:00 a.m.
Meet Master Naturalists Janet & Andy Raddatz to observe birds and nature in the park. The walk along Old Park Rd. and the Ancient Shores Trail may take 2-3 hours depending on what is seen. Participants can leave at any time. Some binoculars are available. Age 12 and up; children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets please. Bird walks meet weekly.

We suggest bringing water, sunscreen, and bug spray and wearing long pants, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes or hiking boots. The walk takes place along a paved road with limited traffic and along a mowed grass trail. Meet at the Friends Pond parking lot, 2020 Old Park Rd., Sheboygan, WI 53081. Campers can access Friends Pond by foot or bicycle or drive out the main park entrance and around the block to Old Park Road and the parking area. There is a vault toilet adjacent to the parking lot, but no water is available at this location. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Discovering Wildflowers
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10
1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
Wednesdays are for wildflowers. Join park naturalist Phyllis McKenzie and discover a variety of wildflowers growing along the Black River Trail. As the seasons change, so do the wildflowers. Will we see trillium, skunk cabbage, or meadow rue? The walk will last at least one hour. An adult must accompany children.

We suggest bringing water, sunscreen, and bug spray and wearing long pants, long sleeves and closed-toe shoes or hiking boots. Meet Karen at the Black River Trails parking lot, P1. Please note that there are no bathrooms or water available at this location. The nearest bathrooms are vault toilets at the North Beach parking lot or at the Park Office. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Bumble Bee Survey
THURSDAY, JUNE 11
9:00 – 10:00 a.m.
There are more than 20 species of bumble bees native to Wisconsin. Spring is the time to find bumble bee queens flying about in search of good nesting habitat to raise their young. Early summer finds the colony growing. By late summer, males emerge and find new queens to mate with. Only queen bumble bees overwinter. We’ll see if bumble bees or other native pollinators are around, take photos of them and see who we can identify.

Meet at the closed gate near the entry to the campground. Please note there are no bathrooms or water available here. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Accessible Wildlife for Any Ability
FRIDAY, JUNE 12
2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Do you love taking wildlife photos? So does Steven Thompson. Please join Steven for a journey around Wisconsin focusing on tips and tricks to photograph wildlife in accessible locations. Steven will share what he has learned about accessing wildlife opportunities, especially in the eastern part of the state since his disabled journey began in 2019. He’ll share many accessible locations, from state lands to local parks. This photo exploration will last a little over an hour and is open to all.

Meet at the Sanderling Nature Center which is open from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. Accessible bathrooms and a water fountain with bottle filler are available inside. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Kite Building Workshop
SATURDAY, JUNE 13
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Join in the fun of making and decorating a pocket sled kite during one of the workshop sessions. Then head out to fly the kite. All ages are welcome; younger children will need parental help. Children must be accompanied by an adult. A fee of $5 cash per kite kit will be collected at the workshop. Credit card purchases must be made at the Park Office before going to the program. This is a drop-in program.

No experience required. Meet at the Park Bathhouse near parking lot P6. The Bathhouse has flush toilets, changing areas and a drinking fountain. This location is not open to dogs. A Vehicle Admission pass is required and can be purchased online or at the Park Office upon arrival.

Night Noises: Midnight Music for Campers
SATURDAY, JUNE 13
6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Waking up in the night wondering what the noise is outside your tent? It’s not something scary. It’s midnight music for the “Brave of Heart.” Bring the family and join Master Naturalist Chris Lilek Kelm as she teaches participants “how to crackle, squeak, buzz and bump” like the creatures of the night. Vehicle admission required.

Meet at the Amphitheater near parking lot 4. Program will move to Sanderling Nature Center in inclement weather.
