We stand in solidarity with Jane Doe and with every survivor of sexual assault.

The Cornell 7 case involves a former Cornell student, identified as Jane Doe, who filed a civil lawsuit against Cornell and seven fraternity members after experiencing sexual assault at a fraternity house in 2024. The case has brought renewed attention to sexual assault and the experiences of survivors, and the criminal investigation has since been reopened.

While this case is receiving national attention, sexual assault can happen anywhere, to anyone. It happens in homes, on college campuses, at parties, in relationships, and in communities like ours. It is far more common than many people realize.

For survivors, seeing stories like this can bring up a lot. You may feel angry, overwhelmed, exhausted, triggered, or simply need a break from it all. Please take care of yourself. It’s okay to step away from the news or social media. It’s okay to not follow every update. Give yourself permission to do whatever helps you feel safe, grounded, and supported.

And if you need support, please reach out. Our advocates are here through our hotline and walk-in services. You don't have to know exactly what you need or have the right words.
