The City of Sheboygan, Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin accepting 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡 𝗮𝘁 𝟳:𝟯𝟬 𝗔𝗠 𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟵, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲! Department of Public Works Announces Start of Fall Leaf Collection Program

Beginning on Monday, October 12, 2026, and continuing through Wednesday, November 26, 2026, City residents are allowed to rake leaf piles into the street gutter for easier and faster pickup by City crews. Under normal conditions, the City Ordinance prohibits the placement of debris or leaves in gutters. However, an exception is being made during this seven-week period and only during this period.

Leaf Collections may be suspended if snow, ice, or freezing rain falls as collection equipment will not pick up leaves that are frozen.

To provide better service and improved efficiency, the Department of Public Works has divided the city into five sections for leaf collection (one zone for each day of the week). Under this program, the DPW crews will concentrate their efforts within the assigned zone each day. The Department will make every effort to remove leaves from the entire zone that day, but when leaf fall is heavy, it is possible that the collection crews may need to finish the zone the following day.

To alleviate the large volume of leaves on the street and help prevent street flooding, residents are encouraged to utilize alternative ways to manage leaf piles. First, the City of Sheboygan asks residents to mulch their leaves into the lawn while cutting the grass. The mulched leaves provide a natural fertilizer for the lawn. Second, residents are encouraged to bag their leaves and bring them to the drop-off site.

Residents are reminded to rake leaves away from the curb, creating space for water to flow properly to any stormwater catch basins to prevent flooding. Please locate the leaf pile in areas clear of parked vehicles so as not to interfere with the pickup operation. Leaf piles that contain branches, sod, pumpkins or general yad waste will not be collected. The leaf collection equipment is not designed to collect these materials. Avoid driving or parking on leaf piles in the street.

Park Facility Seasonal Closure Schedule Announced

The City of Sheboygan Department of Public Works Parks Division will begin its annual seasonal closure and winterization process for park facilities starting October 1. These scheduled closures ensure that park amenities are properly maintained, protected from winter conditions, and prepared for spring reopening.

Seasonal Closure Timeline
· October 1 – Splash Pad Shutdown Splash pads at Cleveland Park, End Park, Workers Park, and Optimist Park will be turned off for the season to allow winterization to begin.

· October 15 – Park Facility Closures All public restrooms (accept Shaw Park), open-air shelters, and fish cleaning stations will close for the season. Park amenities such as picnic tables, benches, and garbage cans will begin being removed.

· November 1 – Removal of Recreational Amenities Seasonal recreation features—including pickleball nets, tennis nets, and soccer nets—will be taken down. Kayak launches will also be removed and stored for the winter months.

Please note: Portable restrooms will be placed at highly activated park locations to support continued public use throughout the fall/winter, as deemed necessary.

The Department of Public Works and City leadership recognize the community’s strong appreciation for Sheboygan’s parks and recreational resources. This schedule is designed to keep parks accessible for as long as possible while ensuring staff have adequate time to properly winterize facilities, manage fall leaf collection, and complete final winter preparations.

Residents’ understanding and cooperation during this seasonal transition are greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all the Public Works custodial staff for what is often a thankless job keeping our facilities, parks, streets and infrastructure clean and welcoming to citizens, visitors and customers! Custodial staff also ensure parks facilities are clean, safe and sanitary, as well as streets remain free of garbage and debris. Today and always, we thank you for the job you do each and every day!

2026 Wildwood Cemetery Fall Cleanup

It’s fall cleanup time at Wildwood Cemetery. The cemetery asks for your help in clearing all summer decorations and artificial flowers in order to help maintain Wildwood Cemetery’s beauty. Lot owners are respectfully asked to remove their summer decorations and artificial flowers by October 15, 2026. Any items not removed by October 15 will be disposed of by cemetery staff. With over 25,000 graves to maintain, the support of families who observe the cemetery rules is greatly appreciated. We ask that you refrain from putting fall/winter decorations out until November 15.

Some rules to keep in mind:
· Beginning November 15, new winter decorations or flowers may be placed on the grave sites.

· No tall perennials shall be planted which would block the lettering on the markers.

· Flowers can only be planted in front of stones with the exception of Section 19 which only allows artificial flowers.

· No perennials or plants which have thorns, thistles, or burs are allowed.

· The maximum size of a flowerbed is one foot away from the marker and to the width of the marker.

· No fences, above ground edging, gravel, shredded bark or similar materials may be placed on grave sites.

· Dirt mounds in the flowerbed or by the marker are not allowed.

· Decorations that are made of glass or other materials that shatter easily are also not allowed.

· Up to two solar lights may be placed at each marker.

· If flags are placed in the ground, the cloth/plastic portion of the flag must be at least 12” above ground level.

Water Utility Work – Indiana Avenue
The Sheboygan Water Utility will be conducting work on Indiana Avenue, east of S Taylor Drive. This work is necessary to maintain the reliability of the City's water distribution system.

DATE: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9
TIME: 7:00 A.M ON 10/7/26 to 12:00 P.M ON 10/9/26.

What to Expect
• Westbound traffic on Indiana Avenue will be closed at S 17th Street during construction.
• Eastbound traffic on Indiana Avenue will remain open but will be reduced to a single lane
through the work zone. Motorists should use caution.
• Westbound traffic detour:
o South on South 17th Street
o West on Georgia Avenue
o West on Union Avenue
o North on S. Taylor Drive to Indiana Avenue
• Local access to businesses and properties will be maintained.
• Work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if necessary.

The Sheboygan Water Utility understands the inconvenience experienced during street maintenance activities and appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation as we work to complete this project. Please use caution and slowdown in construction zones.
