Shasta State Historic Park

Shasta State Historic Park Shasta State Historic Park is open from sunrise to sunset. The Courthouse Museum is open Thursday-Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

The “Queen City of the Northern Mines,” Shasta State Historic Park was once the picturesque gold mining town of Shasta. In its heyday, the town was the center of commerce and social activity for northern California. To walk the cemeteries, sites and ruins is to look back in time at the daily lives of the merchants, families and miners who once lived and worked here. Content is Protected by Intelle

🌼 April Showers Bring May Flowers 🌼
Spring has arrived at Shasta State Historic Park, and the hills are coming alive in color! After a season of much-needed rain, delicate wildflowers are beginning to bloom across the park—tiny bursts of yellow, purple, and pink peeking through the grass and along the historic paths.
From bright dandelions catching the sunlight to soft lavender blooms nestled near the old brick walls, these seasonal wildflowers are a beautiful reminder of nature’s resilience and renewal. Every step through the park offers a new detail to notice—if you slow down and look closely.
🌿 Take a walk, breathe in the fresh spring air, and enjoy the simple beauty that follows the rain.
📸 Don’t forget to bring your camera—this is one of the most colorful times of year to visit!

The current Art of the American Experience exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to reflect on the enduring importance of public support for the arts, with a special focus on the New Deal, which emerged in response to the Great Depression of 1929.
At the Williamson Lyncoya Smith Gallery in the Shasta State Historic Park Museum, guests can view selections from the Boggs Collection featuring works by notable artists such as Maynard Dixon, Helen Forbes, Otis Oldfield, and Ray Strong. Each of these artists contributed to what remains one of the most significant public art initiatives in American history. The exhibition invites exploration of how that period compares with today’s ongoing conversation about the value of public funding for the arts.
Art docent Sue Lang will also share insights into the artists represented in the local Boggs Collection, their works, and how they endured and created amid the challenges of the Great Depression.
