Town of Shasta Interpretive Association

Town of Shasta Interpretive Association TOSIA was founded in 1982 as a nonprofit corporation with a contract to assist the educational and interpretative efforts at Shasta State Historic Park.

One hundred and fifty years ago, Shasta City lured merchants, bakers and gold seekers; these adventures are still needed. Those with an interest in local history, who like to be around people who want to spend time volunteering in a unique historical setting, are invited to contact the Courthouse Museum staff at (530) 243-8194. Through the fundraising of its membership, the Town of Shasta Interpre

tative Association (TOSIA) provided financial support for a variety of programs such as school group visits, the Junior Docent and High School Docent programs and cultural special events. This support allows the park to fulfill the mission for California State Parks by providing visitors with top quality educational experiences. TOSIA is a valuable all to the park, visitors, and staff. Shasta State Historic Park is located on Highway 299, three miles west of Redding.

Our Shasta State Historic Park, home of the Williamson Lyncoya Smith Gallery, kicked off their newest art exhibit with docent Sue Lang talking about the Great Depression and how the federal government helped artists survive by hiring them to paint murals on various government structures.

The exhibit created by Michael Flanagan entitled "Brushstrokes of Resilience, Art of the American Experience" features information on how art helped shape hope and identity during the hardships of the Great Depression. It features artists from The Boggs Collection that participated in the program.

The only designated art gallery in the California State Parks system also is featuring it's main exhibit on transportation with art and artifacts. The Museum is open Thursday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
