Did you know the American Indian Advisory works hand‑in‑hand with SCOE Superintendent Mike Freeman? When he stepped into the role after the esteemed Judy Flores, our spirits were lifted to learn he would continue honoring and strengthening relationships with all tribal nations in Shasta County.

For the Wintu people, this partnership reflects balas‑puiyuk “the good path” a way of working together that uplifts our youth, protects their future, and keeps our teachings alive. Supporting education is more than academics; it is toy‑toy winyun, “lifting the people,” ensuring our children rise with confidence and cultural grounding. The Wintu Tribe of Northern California is proud to stand in this work. Together, we are building bridges rooted in respect, culture, and opportunities that will carry future generations forward in strength and unity.

Chairman Rickard will be in Sacramento at the State Capitol tomorrow, Monday, April 28, to oppose amendments to AB 52.

We can help by contacting:

Assembly Member Isaac Bryan

Assembly Member Cecilia Aguilar-Curry
916-319-2004
Email address c/o [email protected]

"The California Indigenous Nations Alliance (CINA) invites all California Tribal Nations, lineal descendants, and allies to join us in strongly opposing the proposed amendments to AB 52, introduced by Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry.

Let’s be clear: AB 52 is not just a policy change—it is a genocidal attack on California Tribal peoples.

This bill seeks to strip non-federally recognized Tribes and lineal descendants of their consultation rights under CEQA, erasing hard-fought protections and reversing the progress Indigenous leaders have made over the last decade. This is spiritual violence—a targeted effort to silence the very people who have safeguarded this land for millennia.

We refuse to be erased.
We refuse to allow colonial violence to be rewritten into law again.

We call on Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry to immediately withdraw AB 52 and end her complicity in California Indian genocide. We are watching—and we will remember who stood with us and who stood against us.

🛑 WHY YOU SHOULD OPPOSE AB 52:
It excludes non-federally recognized Tribes from mandatory consultation—returning us to a system of erasure and disenfranchisement.

It violates the spirit of AB 168, which Assemblymember Aguiar-Curry herself championed in 2019 to include all Tribes.

It undermines Tribal Cultural Resource protections, disrespecting the sacred responsibility of lineal descendants to care for ancestral burial sites and traditional lands.

It contradicts international Indigenous rights, including the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), which affirms our inherent right to consultation and free, prior, and informed consent."

Thank you Michelle Radcliffe Garcia for all of your work on the renaming of the Sq--- roads. The Board of Supervisors approved the renaming of the three of the roads. The fourth road is privately owned, and one of the partial owners, Jane Hopper, said she was "vehemently opposed to renaming S--- Grass Trail to anything else." For more information, the article can be found on the Shasta Scout website.
Thank you, again, Michelle!!!!
