Did you see that? ✨

Around 9am, many residents reported seeing a bright fireball streak across the sky, followed by a rumbling sound similar to thunder.

This was most likely a meteorological event where a bolide, a very bright meteor (also called a fireball) entered Earth’s atmosphere. These events can be very noticeable and sometimes produce a sonic boom. They are usually visible over a widespread area.

🌠 What to know:
• Fireballs are rare but natural space events
• The rumbling sound can occur if the meteor breaks apart
• They are usually harmless and burn up before reaching the ground

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning in effect until midnight tonight for our area.

🌬️ What to Expect
• Sustained west winds 20–30 mph
• Wind gusts up to 65 mph

⚠️ Potential Impacts
• Trees and large branches may fall
• Power lines may be downed and outages are possible
• Travel may be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles such as trucks, vans, and SUVs
• Loose outdoor objects may become airborne

🛑 Safety Tips for Residents
• Secure patio furniture, trash cans, grills, and decorations
• Park vehicles away from trees if possible
• Stay away from windows during the strongest winds
• Never approach downed utility lines
• Limit unnecessary travel during peak wind gusts

Sharpsville EMA is aware of a social media post circulating that references a “Mercer County Level 3 Snow Emergency.”

This information is NOT accurate for Mercer County, Pennsylvania.

🔹 The post being shared originates from Ohio, where “Level 1–3 Snow Emergencies” are used.

🔹 Pennsylvania does NOT use the Ohio Level 1–3 Snow Emergency system.

🔹 As of this time, no such countywide travel restriction has been issued by the sheriff’s office of Mercer County, PA

‼️ There are no arrest-based travel restrictions currently in effect in Mercer County, Pennsylvania related to snow or winter weather.

⚠️ What residents should know:
• Winter weather can still create hazardous conditions.
• Residents should use good judgment, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary travel during poor conditions.
• Any official emergency declarations or travel advisories affecting Sharpsville or Mercer County, PA will be shared directly by local officials and emergency management through verified channels.

⚠️Frigid Temperatures & Winter Storm Warning⚠️

Sharpsville residents should be aware of very cold temperatures and a potential winter storm forecasted for this weekend. Snow, icy conditions, and dangerous wind chills may impact travel, utilities, and overall safety.

❄️ Please take the following precautions:

🚘 Limit unnecessary travel.

🅿️ Keep parked vehicles off roadways when possible.

🧥 Dress in layers and protect exposed skin.

🔥 Check heating systems and space heaters for safe operation.

🪏 Keep nearby fire hydrants clear of snow.

🐶 Bring pets indoors.

💧 Protect indoor and outdoor plumbing.

🔦 Prepare for unexpected power or utility loss.

✅ Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors.

🥶 ⚠️ Official Cold Weather Statement:

Sharpsville EMA is closely monitoring weather conditions and utility status. If a large-scale outage occurs or public safety conditions warrant an emergency response, the Borough is prepared to activate a community warming shelter at one of our planned energy-backup shelter locations swiftly.

Residents are encouraged to take normal cold-weather precautions and to check on vulnerable neighbors during extreme temperatures.

WHEN...From 7 PM Saturday to noon EST Monday.

IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning commute.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.

Snowfall is expected to reach 9-14” at an estimated rate of 1” per hour at times.

We’re excited to share that Sharon Regional Health System successfully passed their Department of Health inspection today — officially approving them to once again be a certified Chest Pain Center capable of providing 24/7 STEMI (heart attack) care for our region.

This is a major win for everyone in Mercer County and the surrounding communities. Having round-the-clock, state-approved STEMI services means faster treatment, better outcomes, and more lives saved right here at home. ❤️

A huge thank-you to the dedicated teams at Sharon Regional who worked tirelessly to achieve this milestone, and to all first responders and healthcare partners who make cardiac care possible every day.

⚠️⛈️ Tuesday will see an enhanced level 3 storm prediction meaning there is a high chance of severe weather, the potential for isolated tornadic activity, damaging winds and up to golf ball sized hail. The weather threat will come in two waves during the day. The first wave of severe weather is possible around 2-4pm and the second wave caused by a quick moving cold front is expected around sunset between 7-10pm.
