The Village's annual consumer confidence report (drinking water quality report) has been published, and can be accessed online at: https://shannonillinois.com/ccr

As in all previous years since the new water system went online, the report shows no violations for contaminants.

April 15 may be associated with income taxes, not property taxes, but it still brings taxes to the forefront of many residents' minds and provides a useful opportunity to examine how property tax dollars are allocated.

In short, 16.1% of total real estate taxes collected from properties located within the Village of Shannon are allocated to the Village; the remaining 83.9% is distributed among other taxing bodies, including the school district, county, township, and fire district (2024 figures).

Importantly, the Village only receives tax revenue from properties within Village limits, and a “Shannon” mailing address does not determine residency. Properties outside Village limits do not contribute tax revenue to the Village and are not part of the Village of Shannon for tax or governance purposes.
