📢 Important Tax Update – County Millage Increase 📢
As many of you have heard, county millage has increased by 5 mills. I want to clarify what this means for your tax bill so there’s no confusion.
If your property is assessed at $1,000, your taxes will increase by $5 at face value.
There has been some misunderstanding on Facebook, with some posts suggesting tax bills are increasing by 50% or more. This is not true—your bill will not skyrocket.
How to Calculate Your Tax Increase:
✔ (Assessed Value ÷ 1,000) = Value
✔ (Value × Millage) = Increase at Face Value
Example Calculation (Assessed Value: $5,500):
🔹 $5,500 ÷ 1,000 = 5.5
🔹 5.5 × 5 mills = $27.50 increase at face value.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I just wanted to clear up any confusion and help you understand what to expect.
💵 New: Cash Payments Accepted This Year 💵
This year, I’m trying something new and will be accepting cash payments. However, there are a few important conditions:
✅ You must bring your entire tax bill (both the top and bottom portions) so I can stamp and initial your copy and my copy for record-keeping.
✅ Exact cash only – I will not have change available.
✅ Overpayments – Any extra amount paid will be carried over into the tax account. Once my term is over, those funds will be split between the county, school, and municipality or used to help cover small shortages for those who come up slightly short on their bills.
I have always preferred checks because they are traceable, but I understand that some people prefer to pay in cash. I’m giving this a try under these conditions.
Let me know if you have any questions!
