We are still receiving reports from residents about scammers!

Reminder:

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER:
• Call you and demand payment to avoid arrest
• Ask for money through Cash App, gift cards, kiosks, or wire transfers
• Threaten immediate arrest over the phone
• Request payment for warrants or fines without official court documentation

Protect Yourself:
• Hang up immediately if you receive a call like this
• Do not send money or provide personal information
• Verify claims by calling the agency directly using an official phone number
• Report suspicious calls to local law enforcement

Scam Prevention 101!

Don’t fall for phone calls, texts, or social messages claiming you missed jury duty, have an outstanding warrant, or owe bail money. Scammers often impersonate law enforcement or government agencies and try to scare you into paying quickly — usually via wire transfer, gift cards, cryptocurrency (kiosks), or other fast exchange methods. These are not real warrants or bail considerations. Legitimate agencies will never demand instant payment to avoid arrest.
Common Tactics
• Urgent threats or intimidation
• Requests for untraceable payments
• Caller ID that looks real but isn’t
• Pressure to keep it secret or act immediately
If in doubt, hang up and call the official number of the agency directly.

Representing our agency and helping shape the future of crisis negotiations!

Recently, Investigator Tia Frembgen and Sergeant Jessica Trimboli attended the Florida Association of Hostage Negotiators (FAHN) Conference. Beyond attending this exceptional training event, both serve in leadership roles within the organization. Investigator Frembgen serves as a Regional Director, while Sergeant Trimboli serves on the Executive Board as the Association Ambassador.

This year's conference was an incredible success, bringing together negotiators and public safety professionals from across the state to learn, collaborate, and grow. We are especially proud to have two of our own playing a vital role in the foundation, planning, and impact of an event that continues to advance the profession and strengthen agencies throughout Florida.

Thank you both for your dedication to excellence, leadership, and service; both within our agency and across the state.

Some people pass through life quietly. Others leave a mark so profound that their presence is felt long after they’re gone.

At yesterday’s memorial service for 44-year-old Sergeant Jonathan Schlager, OCSO Chaplain Tim Sheldon described him as all the best parts of an “exclamation point”!

That’s to say Sgt. Schlager lived with a boundless enthusiasm for life that touched all of us. Whether he was serving his community as a respected law enforcement leader, serving his country in the Air Force, mentoring fellow deputies, shredding heavy metal riffs on his guitar with his band, or spending time with the family he adored, Jonathan lived life at full volume and intensity.

Sheriff Aden, Jonathan’s OCSO co-workers and his friends highlighted the ways his energy was infectious, his personality unforgettable, and his exuberance inspiring. But for all his light-heartedness and love of a good prank, Sgt. Jonathan Schlager was also an extremely dedicated and productive professional, a trusted mentor, a loyal friend, a loving husband, and an extremely proud Dad.

On June 10th hundreds of law enforcement officers, airmen, friends, and family members gathered to celebrate Jonathan's life and honor his legacy.

Chaplain Sheldon told the crowd in the final 48 hours of his life Jonathan was still focused on the people he loved most. He made sure he gave his wife a special ring he wanted her to have, and he filled the family's new pool for his daughter.

His service at the Mattie Kelly Performing Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College concluded with a final tribute that was quintessentially Jonathan. Years ago in his law enforcement paperwork, he had related that someday he wanted "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"—the Guns N' Roses version of course —played at his funeral if anything should happen to him. That ending song sparked a lot of tears - but it was perfect as both a farewell and a reminder of the life Jonathan lived: bold, authentic, passionate, and entirely his own.

As many of us know all too well, it’s so hard to say goodbye to someone so young with so much more to give. But Jonathan lived fully. He loved fiercely. He served honorably.

And while most lives end with a period, his years here will always be remembered as an exclamation point by all who knew and loved him. Rest in Peace our Friend.
