Shaker Heights High School students explored future career opportunities during Futures Week this spring. From scholarships and resume building to military, college and career pathways, students gained valuable tools for life after graduation 💯

A highlight of the week was the second annual Shaker Trades Day, where students participated in hands-on activities and connected with professionals in skilled trades including construction, electrical work, HVAC, manufacturing and more 🛠️

Third-graders at Boulevard Elementary School recently held a Culture Showcase! 💯 Students researched a country and learned about its economy, food, transportation, housing and more. 🥐🚌🏠️ Students also brought items to display their country's culture to the community, including food, home decor, art and flowers! Shaker Heights Middle School eighth-graders showcased their Community Projects last week, demonstrating the power of student-led learning and civic engagement! 🤩Students researched issues they are passionate about and developed action plans to make a positive impact in their communities. ❣️

Project topics addressed a wide range of important issues, including literacy, animal rights, pollution, and more. We are proud of our students' creativity, compassion, and commitment to creating meaningful change! 💯

Shaker Heights High School seniors presented their Senior Project at a showcase earlier this week! 🤩💯For the last month, seniors participated in experiential learning on a topic of their choice. Students showed an impressive array of experiences, ranging from shadowing surgeons to working at NASA to working closely with the brand managers for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Guardians! Congratulations to Onaway’s Grade 5 Dancing Classrooms Team for an outstanding performance at the finals held at Playhouse Square, where they earned a Silver Medal! 🥈🤩 We are so proud of the students for their teamwork, confidence and dedication throughout the program.

A special thank-you to Señora Chavez for partnering with Stacey DeYoung to support this pilot program as a collaboration between Spanish and Language & Literature. Thanks to a generous donation that covered spring program costs, we are excited about the possibility of expanding Dancing Classrooms to all Grade 5 students this fall.

Our talented Shaker musicians recently had a great day at Sandusky High School for Music in the Parks, competing against other schools from Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Maryland. Shaker students earned top honors before enjoying a fun day at Cedar Point!

A vigil was held yesterday to honor the life of Najee Hardaway, a beloved Lomond Grade 4 teacher whose passing has deeply impacted the community. ❤️🖤

Family, friends and colleagues shared heartfelt memories of Najee’s cheer, optimism, dedication to his students, and unwavering commitment to education. Many spoke about how he could light up a room with his presence and make others feel seen, supported and encouraged.

Family, friends and colleagues wore Najee's favorite colors, red and black, and brought flowers to honor his legacy. We continue to keep Najee’s loved ones, students, colleagues, and all those whose lives he touched in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Laurel Road from Onaway Road to Aldersyde Drive will be closed to traffic on Friday, May 29 starting at 9 a.m. as First Energy replaces a pole.

The work is expected to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The City of Shaker Heights will place cones to block off Laurel Road for parking early Friday morning. Laurel runs directly in front of Shaker Heights High School (in front of the lawn), and this section will be closed.

Please adjust your arrival routes as needed to avoid this road. Parking will not be available on Laurel from Onaway to Aldersyde.

Yesterday, Lomond Elementary School welcomed students back following the tragic death of Grade 4 Teacher Najee Hardaway. Students were greeted with therapy dogs in the morning, and received support throughout the day from a team of social-emotional learning specialists. This was a difficult day for students, families and staff, but the Lomond community is banding together to support one another through this challenging time ❣️

As our Shaker Heights Schools community continues to mourn the loss of beloved Lomond Grade 4 Teacher Najee Hardaway, we share the following information on a community-organized vigil:

Community Vigil:
Thursday, May 28 from 7-8 p.m.
Blacktop behind Lomond Elementary School, 17917 Lomond Boulevard

All community members are welcome to wear Mr. Hardaway’s favorite colors, red and black. Any individuals who would like to bring flowers are welcome to bring them to the vigil.

Community members may view the obituary for additional arrangements information and write condolence messages at the link below.
