There will be no classes at Shaker Heights High School or Shaker Heights Middle School on Tuesday, October 27. All other schools and offices remain open.

Counselors are available at the Middle School and High School to support students, staff and families. Students may visit their school buildings between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on October 27 to meet with a counselor. High School students and families may call 216-295-4200 for support, and Middle School families may call 216-295-4100.

As part of the International Baccalaureate (IB) unit, How We Organize Ourselves, Grade 1 students at Lomond have been learning about wants and needs, goods and services, and producers and consumers! 🛒

Last week, the students were busy creating crafts, and on Friday, the first-graders came together for their summative activity. Each student had two tickets and had the opportunity to switch roles from producer to consumer, using their tickets to “shop” for two goods to take home, including games, jewelry, bookmarks, and footwear accessories 🛍️

This was a fun, hands-on way for the students to show what they've learned! 💯

Award-winning author Derrick Barnes visited Shaker Heights Middle School this week! 🤩 Mr. Barnes spoke to students about his books and inspiration for his work. He also spoke on his life experiences and obstacles, in addition to how current events influence his books. Students were excited to meet Mr. Barnes! 💯

All Individuals & Societies teachers worked with students in Grades 6-8 to review Mr. Barnes' book "7 Million Steps: The True Story of Dick Gregory's Run for the Hungry." All Grade 8 students read Mr. Barnes' book "We Could Be Brothers". Grade 8 students are reading "I Am Every Good Thing" by Mr. Barnes or his award-winning book "The Incredible Henson Blayze" for their independent reading choice book! 📚

The SHHS Film Club attended the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival Illuminate Student Film Experience! 🎥 The students watched five short documentary films that explored the simple but powerful question: What is the human spirit capable of? They also listened to two panels of documentary film makers and asked questions. This was a great experience for our students! 🤩💯

Congratulations to our nine Shaker Heights High School seniors who have been named National Merit Commended Students: William Bribriesco, Alina Dean, Elinor Gillespie, Connor Hansen, Leo Pevnick, Shahir Sattar, Reena Srivastava, David Wang and Elliott Young! These Shaker students were among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship competition by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT / National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
