Every year, usually in May, Shaker Library staff celebrate the library fairies who visit Main Library and Bertram Woods. πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈπŸŒŸπŸ«§

This year, we hosted Fairy Storytime and a Fairy Tea Party, which was so much fun! And our Fairy House Scavenger Hunt continues at Bertram Woods through the end of the month. Here is Ms. Megan posing with some of the dwellings our staff members created.

If you have been to the Play and Learn Station at Main Library, you have likely met Ellen Barcus.

Ellen, who works with the non-profit Family Connections, has been involved with running playrooms in Shaker for many, many years. Countless Shaker kiddos and their families have been impacted by her kindness, warmth, and insight. She is pictured here (left) with Brontie Phillips (right), the other Playroom Specialist you may recognize from the library.

All this to say: Ellen is retiring! πŸ™ŒπŸŽˆβœ¨ Please join us in congratulating her and thanking her for her time with us.

Her last shift at the Play and Learn Station is this Saturday, 5/30, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., so if your family has been touched by Ellen in some way, please stop by to wish her well!

Ms. Maura and Cevanah had a great time showing off the new library logo AND meeting all the rising kindergarteners this past Saturday at the Shaker Heights Schools Kindergarten Kickoff!

They shared books that can help families prepare to start school and promoted our Summer Reading program.

Some families asked Ms. Maura, "Does my child need to be reading independently to do Summer Reading?" Nope! Summer Reading is for kids 0 - 18, and being read to by a parent, sibling, or audiobook narrator absolutely counts as reading!
