Our Story
The mission of the Shaker Heights Youth Center is to foster the emotional, behavioral and developmental well-being of a diverse, wide spectrum of youth in the Shaker Community.
Major Programs include: *Shaker was named one of eight MyCom (My Commitment, My Community) neighborhoods by the Cleveland Foundation in 2008. MyCom provides youth development programming, supporting adolescents in Employment and Career Development, College Access, Community Access and a wide variety of Arts. The Shaker Heights Youth Center serves as fiscal agent and staffs the project. *School Based Student Assistance Program (SAP) Youth Center staff provide in-school problem identification and referral and support Middle and High School students who are experiencing academic, emotional and/or social problems.
*Academic Success Aid Program (ASAP) provides daily academic support to expelled students as well as teaching positive social skills through life skills groups and community engagement through service learning.
*The Impact Youth Enrichment Program is a collaborative program between the Shaker Heights Youth Center and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Cleveland located in Shaker Heights. This free program is offered to 7th and 8th graders at Shaker Middle School. Students meet three days a week after school and engage in leadership training, social and emotional learning, academic assistance, substance abuse prevention education, and a range of games, sports, crafts, field trips, and guest speakers from the community.
