Well, my day off started early today.
0315 hours: Cement truck rollover on 82E. Appreciate Seymour PD for getting there with lights for EMS and SVFD to do their job, and TxDOT for helping with signs while DPS investigated the crash, and Rocky Hickam Towing rolled it over and hauled it off.
But as I was leaving my house, I noticed a large bull lounging in the cool grass along Hwy 114 in Westover, chewing his cud. So, calls to many ranchers were made, several went out and one got him run off the highway. Finally, thru detective work (he had no brand and a tiny unreadable eartag) an owner was located and a phone number found. He made friends with some cows and hung out there til later when I could get several cowboys out to move him into some pens.
(I called about 9 people in the EARLY
hours trying to figure out who he belonged to and I appreciate you all answering the phone!! )
One poor cowboy and I talked at least 5 times today, between the bull out then cattle truck wreck!
1014 hours: a pickup failed to stop at a stop sign exiting the highway and crashed directly into the side of a loaded cattle truck. 16 heifers were immediately freed from the belly of the trailer, and went a running.
Cowboys. Cowgirls.
Locals. EMS. TxDOT.
SVFD. SPD. BCSO. TxPWD.
PC's towing. Skinner trucking.
Everyone came a runnin to help.
Thankful no injuries from the pickup occupants or trucker; two cattle casualties.
It truly takes a village; later today, two separate people told me how amazed they were at the response from everyone in our area and how quickly folks got roads blocked, traffic directed, panels put up, cattle wrangled then loaded, semi unloaded and reloaded onto another, deads dragged off and a ride to town for the pickup occupants.
You all know who you are, and we truly appreciate your sense of community to help in a crisis.
Apologies if I forgot anyone.
Thank you!!
