***Update***

We’ve received quite a bit of feedback asking why we would use this tool, so we wanted to provide some clarification.

This evacuation slide is intended for non-emergency situations where a student with a disability may need assistance safely exiting a school bus. It provides another option when a traditional evacuation may be difficult.

In a life-threatening emergency, the priority is getting everyone off the bus as quickly and safely as possible. Emergency responders would use whatever means necessary to accomplish that.

Seymour Community Schools has chosen to equip its buses with this tool so it is available if we determine it is appropriate for the situation. It’s simply another resource in our toolbox, and like any emergency equipment, its use depends on the circumstances.

Our goal is always the same: keep students safe and make sure we have options available when seconds and circumstances matter.

Today, Jackson County EMS, alongside the Seymour Fire Department, participated in the first day of School Bus Emergency Evacuation Training! 🚌🚒🚑

During today’s hands-on training, crews reviewed school bus emergency exits, evacuation procedures, and the importance of safely and efficiently removing passengers in the event of an emergency.

A huge thank you to Seymour Community Schools for taking the time to organize and lead this valuable training! Over the course of three days, all on-duty crews will have the opportunity to participate, strengthening our knowledge, skills, and preparedness.

While we certainly hope we never have to put these skills to use in a real-life emergency, being prepared BEFORE an emergency happens can make all the difference when seconds count! ❤️

And of course, we couldn’t let the day go by without catching Medic Supervisor Trueblood leading by example! 🎥😂

🚑 Thank you, Redding School! 🚒🚓

A big thank-you to Redding School for inviting Jackson County EMS to participate in their annual Safety Day!

EMTs Bella and Holly had a great time interacting with the students, answering questions, and helping teach our next generation about the importance of emergency preparedness and safety.

From ground crews providing care and coordinating the scene, to flight teams continuing the mission from the air, it all comes down to one shared mission:

🚁 IU LifeLine × JCEMS LZ Training 🚑

It was a great week of training alongside our friends from IU LifeLine!

IU LifeLine joined JCEMS to give our crews a hands-on opportunity to become more familiar with their aircraft, landing zone operations, and the proper procedures for safely working around the helicopter.

We may not get the opportunity to work alongside their flight crews every day, but when we do, preparation matters. Knowing what to expect and how to safely operate around the aircraft allows everyone to work together efficiently while providing the best care possible and getting our patients where they need to be.

A huge thank you to the IU LifeLine crew for taking the time to train with us, answer questions, and share their knowledge.

🚨 FULL-SCALE EXERCISE SUCCESS! 🚨

After more than a year of planning, tonight’s full-scale exercise was a success!

In coordination with Seymour Community Schools, Jackson County EMA, Jackson County Dispatch and Seymour City Dispatch, Seymour Fire Department, Seymour Police Department, STATFLIGHT, and our partner agencies, Jackson County EMS crews responded to a simulated bleacher collapse at Seymour Middle School involving multiple patients.

Our crews were able to work through the scenario efficiently, communicate with our partner agencies, and put our plans and training to the test.

We had many moments of excellence and, just as importantly, we identified a few areas where we can improve. That is exactly what exercises like this are designed to do. You train for the worst so you can be ready when it matters most.

Most importantly, exercises like tonight demonstrate the incredible level of coordination, professionalism, and teamwork that exists throughout Jackson County.

We are proud to be part of such a well-unified emergency response community.

🚨 PLANNED EXERCISE — SEPTEMBER 16 🚨

Jackson County EMS, along with several other local agencies, will be conducting a PLANNED EMERGENCY EXERCISE on Wednesday, September 16, beginning at 7:00 PM at Seymour Middle School.

Residents in the area may notice multiple emergency vehicles traveling along 4th Street and toward the school during the exercise.

🚑🚒🚓 PLEASE REMEMBER: THIS IS ONLY AN EXERCISE.

There is no actual emergency taking place. The exercise is designed to allow area emergency response agencies to train together and improve our ability to respond to large-scale incidents.
