In honor of National Emergency Medical Services week, Ivy Tech Madison would like to spotlight the Hugh E. Garner Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Hugh’s wife, Annabet established a memorial fund in Hugh’s name to assist students pursuing a degree in the EMS field.

Hugh had served nearly 50 years as a paramedic and was awarded Paramedic of the Year in 2005 by the Indiana EMS Commission of recognition of outstanding service and dedication. He developed the first EMT Course at Ivy Tech Community College in 1985 and continued to serve part-time as a course instructor in all levels of EMS courses until he passed away in 2022. We are grateful for the impact Hugh had on our campus and are thankful for the continued support from his loved ones.

“Why do you train so hard for your job?” 💪🚑

Because after lifting patients, carrying equipment, climbing stairs, and running calls all shift long… you still have to battle the shoreline cord in the bay like it personally offended you. 😂⚡️

One minute you’re doing push-ups… the next you’re trying to plug the truck in while the shoreline cord fights back harder than the gym ever did.

EMS Week shoutout to the crews who stay strong enough to save lives AND wrestle the ambulance shoreline at the end of shift. 🚑🔥

“Improving Outcomes, Together”

This week, we proudly recognize the dedicated men and women of Jackson County EMS who answer the call day and night for our community.

EMS is more than flashing lights and sirens — it’s long hours away from family, missed holidays, interrupted meals, sleepless nights, and showing up on someone else’s worst day with compassion, skill, and professionalism.

At JCEMS, our providers work tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front lines to make a difference in the lives of others every single day. Whether it’s a critical emergency, a comforting hand, or simply being there when someone needs help most, our crews continue improving outcomes together through teamwork, dedication, and heart.

To all EMS providers:
Thank you for your sacrifices.
Thank you for your compassion.
Thank you for serving Jackson County with pride.

Please help us celebrate and thank the incredible providers of JCEMS this EMS Week! 🚑❤️

As we approach National EMS Week 2026, we thought it would be special for our crews to hear from some of their favorite people. ❤️

A few months ago, our administration sent out an “Emergency Contact Update Form” asking for names, phone numbers, and email addresses. At the time, none of us knew why they were updating the list, but this week, we found out it was actually a sneaky way to contact the people closest to us.

The result was this precious video filled with love, encouragement, and appreciation from the families and friends who support our crews every day.

At JCEMS, it’s not just the crews who are family; it’s so much bigger than that. We are grateful for every person who stands behind our providers through the long shifts, late nights, holidays, and hard calls.

Happy EMS Week to all EMS providers! Thank you for everything you do for your communities every single day. 🚑💙

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Director Bryant and IDHS District 8 EMS Manager, Jason Smith, had the honor of presenting an Emeritus Award today from the State EMS Office.

The IDHS Emeritus Designation is a special honor awarded by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) to retiring or retired EMS personnel who have made significant contributions to their field.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Roger and recognize an incredible 45 years of dedicated service to Jackson County. His commitment, sacrifice, and impact on this community over the years have not gone unnoticed.

While these are some of the pictures that were shared with us today, we know many more were taken throughout the celebration. Feel free to add your photos in the comments below so we can continue honoring Roger’s legacy together.

Thank you to everyone who came out today to celebrate such a well-deserved recognition!

All good things must come to an end.

Tonight marks the final night of our Class of 2026 EMT course. After months of hard work, long nights, studying, hands-on training, and dedication, these students are now preparing to take their National Registry exams. Upon successful completion, they will officially begin their journey into a career dedicated to helping others on some of their worst days.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you for the commitment you have shown throughout this course. The future of EMS is brighter because of you, and we hope to see you out on the street very soon.

Best of luck, Class of 2026. Go make a difference.

As our EMT Class of 2026 comes to an end, the final two nights are all about putting it all together.

Hands-on practice, sharpening skills, and building confidence for the National Registry exams.

These students have put in months of hard work, long nights, and real dedication to get to this point. Now it’s time to show what they’ve learned.

Best of luck to each of you! We’re proud of the effort you’ve put in and have no doubt you’re ready. Go get it! 🚑

🚑💙 Community Support at Its Finest! 💙🚑

Today was one of those moments that reminds us just how incredible our community truly is…

While our C-Shift crews were enjoying a little sunshine outside the station, a car pulled up—and let’s just say it wasn’t your average visit! 👀🔥

The amazing folks from Seymour JayC (West End) personally delivered 6 racks of ribs for our crews! 🍖🙌

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better… Jim Lucas stopped by with desserts to top it all off! 🍰👏

Safe to say, our crews were VERY well taken care of today! 😄

From all of us at JCEMS, thank you for your generosity, kindness, and for keeping our crews fueled and smiling. It truly means more than you know!

💙 We are proud to serve a community that supports us the way you do.
