The Jackson County Health Department is going to be reactivating Unity 2515 in the upcoming months. There are several members still listed on the volunteer page. September is "Preparedness Month". Are you prepared? Even in a pandemic, we can experience weather related emergencies. Do you know what you need to have on hand to be prepared? The Medical Reserve Corps system is getting ready to celebrate 20 years of providing services country wide. Volunteers are the backbone of this system and provide medical and nonmedical services.
Our Jackson County unit has been in existence and has served in both emergency and nonemergency situations, supporting the Health Department and supplementing staff during those times.
During COVID, the MRC volunteers have worked to vaccinate the community , make masks, organizing PPE equipment and by serving in organizing and running specific clinics for the past year and a half.
Our response to this emergency could not have happened without our volunteers. We cannot thank you enough nor can the community members who have benefited from your unselfish donation of your time and moral support. Again, thank you.

As more and more vaccine becomes available in Jackson County, the Health Department has an increase in need for volunteers. If you enjoy working/helping people and have some computer skills, we would welcome your help. If you are an RN with a few hours to spare and would like to work with a team of other nurses getting the vaccine into arms, we would welcome your help. Just message, call 812 522-6474 or respond to [email protected] and get signed up. We are going to be working diligently until everyone wanting to be vaccinated gets the opportunity.

The Medical Corp volunteers are needed!!
Vaccinating Hoosiers against COVID-19 quickly and efficiently will be a full-scale public health initiative at the state and local level. To prepare Indiana for COVID-19 vaccine distribution and optimize resources, the Indiana Department of Health has partnered with the Bowen Center to create and identify a pool of licensed healthcare workers, students, and other Hoosiers who are willing to volunteer
with vaccine distribution.
The Jackson County Health Department is anticipating receipt of vaccines in early January and is currently developing the plans for distribution. But, this is a monumental task and will require some assistance from the community. Volunteers of all types will be required; skilled medical, data and record completion, inventory control; IT; traffic control; and interpreters. The schedule for vaccination clinics and locations have yet to be determined, so, if you have a flexible schedule and a desire to assist our population receive this vaccine, please fill out the volunteer form in its entirety and click submit at the bottom of the page. What do your Tuesdays look like? Busy? Have a few hours to volunteer with the Health Department? Our MRC (Medical Reserve Corps) volunteers serve the health department with support and additional man power.
During the months of September and October, the Health Department will be conducting a series of Tuesday drive-thru flu clinics from 10-2 at 801 W 2nd Street. Volunteers assist the professional staff by helping individuals complete their medical forms, answer questions and direct traffic. Each job has a job description and same-day training. Volunteers need not be available for all hours or days.

Stand by!! The MRC is going to be reactivated with more opportunities for members to be of service to the community. Show your interest by "liking" this page and staying tuned after the beginning of the new year!
What is a "MRC" you ask? The Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) is a trained group of volunteers working to assist the Health Department in its efforts to improve the health of Jackson County residents.
JCHD will be actively recruiting and training volunteers to be prepared for medical emergencies, disasters, education programs and providing services to the population.
MRC has a Fb page and we are listed on the Health Department web page. Visit and give participating some thought in 2020.

Sudden emergencies can occur when you least expect them during winter travel in your car. Always be prepared for the worst scenario should you find yourself stranded in your car during extremely cold conditions.

If you have a need to volunteer: Saturday's Mini-marathon. There will be two tents - but we need to gather at the big orange tent in the Seymour High School parking lot at 7:00 a.m. Bring comfy chair; snacks/water/coffee, friends and dress appropriately. Race should conclude by 11:30 and we are only there "just in case". Non-medical but support. Let me know if you need more info; if not I look forward to seeing you Saturday.
