Sevier County 911 Central Dispatch has received several calls this morning related to motor vehicle accidents caused by slick road conditions.
Overnight, temperatures fell into the 20s, allowing wet spots from recent rainfall and melting snow to refreeze. This has created areas of black ice and slick pavement across the county.
Some roads that appear clear may still be hazardous, especially on untreated roads, bridges, shaded areas, higher elevations, and less-traveled routes.
If you are traveling this morning, please use extra caution:
• Slow down and increase following distance
• Allow extra time to reach your destination
• Avoid sudden braking or sharp turns
• Stay alert for changing road conditions
Black ice is difficult to see and can form quickly. Even short trips can become dangerous.
We encourage residents and visitors to travel carefully and consider delaying travel when possible.
If you have an emergency, dial 911.
