United Way of Sevier County is committed to ensuring that struggling families in our state know exactly what benefits they qualify for and how to easily apply for them. That is why we are so proud to share the Tennessee Benefit Kitchen!

The Benefit Kitchen is a completely free, confidential text screener that helps you determine your eligibility for various tax credits and local, state, and federal public benefits. In just 5 to 10 minutes, you can find out if you qualify for programs like Food Stamps (SNAP), Cash Assistance (TANF), the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or Home Energy Assistance (HEAP). Once the screener is completed, you will immediately receive notice of your eligible benefits along with the exact links you need to apply.

A Wears Valley Boy and a hometown girl who has spent 30 years serving this community. 💃🕺

Meet Team McFall.

Lynn Henderson McFall was raised in Sevier County, and her roots run deep. Her family owned and operated Land Air Communications and Radio Shack, which gave her an early appreciation for hard work and local business. She began her career in local government in 1995, graduated from Carson-Newman University in 2002, and worked in civil legal roles with Quilty Title and the General Sessions Court Clerk's Office. Today she serves in the Public Defender's Office for Tennessee's Fourth Judicial District, covering Sevier, Cocke, Jefferson, and Grainger counties. She calls it the most rewarding job she has had, because knowing the system matters, but using that knowledge to help people matters even more.

Mike McFall is a true lifelong resident of Wears Valley and proudly carries the name Valley Boy. He worked at Ogle's Water Park as a teenager and in the family business at Hatcher's Market on Wears Valley Road while attending night classes and earning his degree from Tusculum University. For the past 26 years he has served the community that raised him through the Sevier County Electric System, and for more than 25 years he has coached youth sports.

Lynn and Mike are the proud parents of five kids and recently became LaLa and Popee to a beautiful baby boy. The family never misses their monthly Family Fun Day. Team marketer Hannah Lane of CertaPro Painters of East Tennessee is in their corner.

Some help has wheels.

Tennessee Valley Coalition for the Homeless is a community partner of United Way of Sevier County, and its Sevier County Street Outreach and Shower Trailer Program meets neighbors exactly where they are. A hot shower and clean clothes are not small things. They're what makes a job interview possible.

Alongside outreach, the Coalition works to keep people housed in the first place. Rent that has fallen behind goes directly to the landlord to stop an eviction before it ever reaches a courtroom. Past-due utility balances go straight to the provider. Housing case managers help each household build a plan that holds. The Coalition also serves as the lead agency coordinating homelessness response across a twelve-county region, which means what works here gets shared well beyond here.

This is Financial Security in practice, creating a stronger financial future for every generation. It's also Community Resiliency, addressing urgent needs today for a better tomorrow.

Dancing for Sevier County is how our community turns one night of music into a full year of that work.

She has run a marathon at the North Pole. He has, in his own words, ZERO dance experience. 🏃‍♀️💃

Meet Team Doucette/Whaley.

Dawn Doucette is originally from New Jersey and has lived in Sevier County for the last 23 years. She is a CPA, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and an Accounting & Assurance Principal at Coulter & Justus, P.C. She has completed a marathon in all 50 states, a marathon on each of the seven continents, and a marathon at the North Pole. Her most recent accomplishment was the World Marathon Challenge, seven marathons on seven continents in seven days, where she finished third among women.

Brent Whaley is a lifelong resident of Sevier County and a 1997 graduate of Sevier County High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in 2002, worked in hospitality, then began his banking career in 2007. Today he is Senior Vice President and Community Banking Officer at Tennessee State Bank. He is a member of the Gatlinburg Rotary Club and the Smoky Bear Quarterback Club, and you can hear him commentating Smoky Bears home football games on the school's YouTube channel.

They met in 1999 at the National Championship game in Tempe, Arizona. She was at Florida State, he was at UT. They eventually worked through their football differences and have been married 16 years. As Dawn puts it, they are in it to WIN IT, on both counts. Team marketer Jessie Blalock of Old Forge Distillery is behind them all the way.

Meet Team Collins.

Christina Collins grew up in central Pennsylvania and is a Penn State alum. She has flown as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines, danced for Disney World, performed color guard with the Baltimore Ravens' 250-member band, and worked as a professional clown since she was sixteen. She lost her mother to PKD in 1999 and placed her ashes at Whitewater Falls, creating a lifelong connection to the Smokies. She moved to the mountains in 2007 and today runs a wedding and event company, a balloon company, and a food truck. She is a Pigeon Forge Chamber ambassador, served six years on the Smoky Mountain Wedding Association board, and serves on the Salvation Army Council. Her motto: serve people, love people, and make moments that matter.

Lance Collins is 70, born in Hollywood, California, to parents who appeared in the original Star Trek and Gunsmoke. He served as Security Administrator for Saddleback Church, handled dignitary protection abroad, and spent six years on the Dollywood and Splash Country security teams with multiple assignments on Dolly's detail. He is in his fourth season making Amish pretzels at Mountain of Entertainment Theater, and he is definitely not retired.

Married eight and a half years and together for ten, Christina and Lance are full-time RVers with dogs Elvis and Elvira and a cat named Gympsy. Team marketer Guy Windsor of the Grand Majestic Theater rounds out the team.

He has officiated around 10,000 weddings. Now he is dancing with his daughter. 💃🕺

Meet Team Cavette/Ownby.

Erin Cavette was born and raised in Sevierville and serves as Director of Membership for the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, where she oversees membership growth, engagement, and network building for an organization representing hundreds of local businesses. With a background in marketing, events, and community, she brings a servant's heart and boundless energy to everything she touches. She is a member of Connect Church, married to Ron, mom to two sons, Ryson and Rhett, and an avid lover of the outdoors, as long as it is not too hot. She still lives in her hometown alongside a very large, close-knit extended family.

Rev. Jeff Ownby was born in a doctor's office on the Parkway in Gatlinburg, a descendant of settlers who came to White Oak Flats and Greenbrier in the early 1800s. A graduate of Pi Beta Phi, Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, and Tennessee Tech University, he holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and has served as Gatlinburg City Planner, Sevier County Planning Director, Gatlinburg commissioner, and Gatlinburg's Mayor. Called into the Gospel ministry in 1985, he has taught the Bible for more than 40 years, pastored Pinnacle Bible Church for 18 years, and officiated approximately 10,000 weddings over 28 years. He and his wife Megan own and operate Above the Mist Weddings and Events.

Helping lead the charge is team marketer Josh Norris, a realtor with New Direction Real Estate.

Meet Team Broome.

Betsy Broome grew up in Oakwood, Georgia, raised by her mom and older sister in the North Georgia foothills, where her childhood nickname was Jubilee. She found dance on her color guard team and carried it through the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega and her Phi Mu sisterhood. After more than 20 years as a cardiac nurse in middle Tennessee, she traded her scrubs for hospitality and is now in her fourth season as a VIP Tour Guide at Dollywood.

Trey Broome chose these mountains as a Western Carolina University student in the mid-90s and never wavered. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia and today serves as Vice President of Clinical Operations at WellMed. Evenings and weekends he is on the water at Surf the Smokies, the family's Fliteboard-partnered Fliteschool on Hunkerdown Hollow Farm, where guests eFoil above Douglas Lake with the Smokies rising all around them.

Betsy and Trey met in the mountains of North Carolina and celebrate 25 years of marriage this December. They are raising two boys, Parker, 21, and Sawyer, 16, on a farm with Delta the dog, six spirited goats, and more chickens than Betsy will admit to counting. Cheering them on is team marketer Chuck Winstead of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, a United Way supporter since 1986.
