🚨 FLOOD WATCH in Effect for Sevier County & Surrounding Areas 🚨

A Flood Watch has been issued until Tuesday night at 9:00 PM for portions of East Tennessee, including the Sevier Smoky Mountains and North Sevier areas.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
• Flash flooding possible from excessive rainfall.

• Showers and thunderstorms moving in Monday morning through Monday evening.

• Some storms may produce rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour.

• Already wet ground will increase the risk of rapid runoff and isolated flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas, creeks, streams, and mountain valleys.

IMPACTS: Rivers, creeks, and roads in flood-prone locations could see rapid rises. Be especially cautious in the Smokies and rural areas with poor drainage.

SAFETY REMINDERS FROM WCFD:

• Avoid driving or walking through flooded roads — Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

• Never enter floodwaters in your vehicle or on foot.

• Have an emergency plan for your family and pets.

• Monitor local weather and road conditions closely.

• If you live in a flood-prone area, prepare to move to higher ground if needed.

Stay weather aware and stay safe out there.

Last week, our dedicated firefighters from multiple shifts stepped up their skills with two excellent training opportunities!

Rural Water Supply (DO111)

Taught by instructors from the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy (TFACA), this 16-hour course focused on effective rural water supply operations. Firefighters learned critical techniques for tanker shuttle operations, drafting, fill sites, and overcoming challenges in areas without hydrants—essential skills for protecting our community in Sevier County’s rural settings.

On Saturday, our duty crew joined forces with multiple county departments for a productive Multi-Company Training session.

Crews practiced:

• Truck Company Operations
• VEIS (Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search)
• Search and Rescue of victims during structure fires

These hands-on drills strengthened inter-department coordination and sharpened our tactics for real-world incidents.

We’re proud of our team’s commitment to continuous training and staying prepared to serve Waldens Creek and surrounding areas. Great work, everyone!

We are proud to announce that Firefighter Ian Lanier has successfully earned his National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification and State of Tennessee licensing as an EMT (Basic)!

We are equally excited to share that Firefighter Joslyn Ogle has achieved her NREMT certification and State of Tennessee licensing as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)!

These new certifications mean our team is even better equipped to serve you. This training allows them to provide essential pre-hospital care—including patient assessment, CPR, AED use, oxygen administration, emergency intervention, while deliver immediate lifesaving care at the scene, such as basic airway management, bleeding control, patient stabilization , all the while prepping patients for transport.

Thanks to their dedication and advanced training, the Waldens Creek Fire Department can continue delivering the top-notch emergency medical response our residents and visitors count on—right here in our community.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter Lanier and Firefighter Ogle on these impressive achievements! We are incredibly proud of their hard work and commitment to excellence.

Fire Weather Concerns Today in East Tennessee

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Special Weather Statement:

A very dry airmass and breezy north winds behind a cold front will create elevated fire weather conditions today. Relative humidity is expected to drop into the teens to lower 20s across the region.

• Valley winds gusting up to 20+ mph

• Higher elevations in the East TN mountains: gusts up to 30 mph

Sunday will remain dry with slightly weaker south winds.

Please be careful out there:

• Properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and other flammable items

• Use caution with any equipment that could create sparks

• Keep vehicles off dry grass

• Obey all local burn bans

Dry grasses, leaves, and tree litter can ignite and spread fire quickly under these conditions.
Stay safe and vigilant! 🔥

Note—While we are receiving a small amount of rain this afternoon it appears that won’t be enough to reverse the current dry conditions in the county. As a result of the expected low humidity, dry fuels, and winds throughout this weekend the increased fire danger will remain a threat…

Sevier County, Tennessee (March 27, 2026)

- Sevier County, in coordination with the Cities of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and the Town of Pittman Center, is advising residents and visitors that no open burn permits are being issued at this time due to current weather and fuel conditions that increase the risk of wildfire and uncontrolled outdoor fires.

Officials want to emphasize that this action is considered a burn restriction, not a burn ban. In accordance with guidance from the Tennessee Division of Forestry, burn permits for debris burning are not being issued because the conditions are not safe for such fires.

While a burn ban is not currently in effect, activities such as campfires, outdoor cooking, and grilling are permitted, but should be done under extreme caution

A burn ban, by comparison, is a more severe measure issued by the Commissioner of Agriculture in coordination with the State Forester and local officials when conditions present a significant fire risk. Under a burn ban, all open-air burning is prohibited, including debris burning, campfires, and charcoal or wood-fired grills.

Even under current conditions, residents and visitors are strongly advised to exercise caution when using any outdoor fire source. Fires should be kept small, constantly attended, and fully extinguished before leaving the area. Water or other fire suppression tools should always be readily available.

Officials also stress the importance of early reporting. If you see concentrated smoke, visible flames, or a fire that appears to be spreading or uncontrolled, call 911 immediately so emergency responders can respond quickly.

Sevier County emergency services, fire departments, and city partners will continue to monitor conditions closely and will provide updates if additional restrictions become necessary.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant and help protect lives, property, and the natural resources of Sevier County by practicing safe fire behavior.
