The Oconee Senior Farmers Market Voucher Distribution is coming up in the next couple of weeks. Distribution will be at Shaver Rec, Seneca. We look forward to being able to serve at least 500 qualifying seniors at this event. $50 vouchers are given on a first-come, first serve basis and CANNOT be given early or held. This year, thanks to our partnership with Blue Ridge Electric, we will be able to offer each qualifying senior an additional $20 in coins to be used locally with farmers at Foothills Heritage Market…that’s $70 for fresh fruits and vegetables! Mark your calendars now.

We were so honored the City of Westminster allowed us to present these two United Way awards to our great community partner, Herb Poole and Westminster Rec, at their city council meeting last night. Thank you to UW board member, Daby Snipes for presenting!

Amazing day with our community yesterday observing National Day of Prayer leading into our 60th Anniversary Recognition Celebration Luncheon. We celebrated with the history of how our United Way began in 1966 given by Dr Lyn Norton. Dr Norton’s husband, Bruce Norton, and Dorothy Carty Gallimore organized a group of Oconee citizens who chartered and founded what is now United Way of Oconee. Bruce Norton’s family continuing remaining a part of our organization since 1966. We honored that legacy with the naming of the Bruce A Norton Lifetime Legacy Award, which will be presented each year to a citizen who has been a volunteer, advocate, and donor for over 10 years. The first 2 legacy awards went to Carolyn Maddox and Lisa Williams who have each been a part of our United Way over 20 yrs! These were just part of the recognitions given to our great community.

We are so excited to be partnering again with SCDSS for this program in Oconee. Seniors may qualify for $50 in vouchers to receive fresh fruits and vegetables this summer. MOST SENIORS WILL QUALIFY.

Additionally, in OCONEE ONLY, each qualifying senior will also receive an additional $20 in coins to be used with farmers participating at Foothills Heritage Market. This addition is thanks to the generosity of Blue Ridge Electric Co-Op employees and The Dabo Foundation. This is a ONE-DAY distribution only. Vouchers CANNOT be held or distributed early.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME! We are celebrating 60 years of service to Oconee! Please join us as we recognize and celebrate the past, present, and future at this luncheon on May 7 beginning at 12 Noon. RSVP by April 30. Payment information sent when rsvp is received.

Also, for those that are interested, join us as we have a short observance to honor National Day of Prayer before our celebration at 11:50am in front of the celebration venue.

Thank you Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Inc. employees for your generosity. Because you care, we will be able to serve over 500 Oconee seniors this summer with additional fresh fruits and vegetables.

This program is in partnership with South Carolina Department of Social Services. This donation will add additional dollars for each senior to be used with farmers at our Foothills Heritage Market.

Our employees recently donated $9,500 to United Way of Oconee County to help support the 2026 Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (The FARM Center Seneca, SC 29678; Foothills Heritage Market), which allows seniors to receive fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers at no cost. This program will return in the coming months, so reach out to United Way of Oconee County (864-882-9743) for more information! 💙⚡

Today has been a great day to start Easter weekend. Our staff was able to bless our Seneca Firemen with lunch today, thanking them for their continuous support. Their support and others allowed us to donate and pack over 60 meal bags for Ms Patsy for her program. Thank you Charlotte for volunteering today with staff to put bags together.
