Good morning Wilmer,

We’re seeing **light rain in the area right now**, and conditions will stay **wet, humid, and unsettled throughout the day** with chances of showers and thunderstorms moving through Mobile County.

Roadways around Wilmer, Semmes, and surrounding areas may be slick, especially during heavier rain periods. Some storms today could bring brief heavy downpours, reduced visibility, and standing water in low spots.

Please remember:
• Slow down on wet roads
• Allow extra stopping distance
• Use headlights during rain
• Never drive through standing water
• Stay alert for sudden changes in weather conditions

Even light rain can make rural roads and curves in our area more dangerous than usual.

Today, we honor the brave men and women!

On this International Firefighters’ Day, we recognize the unwavering courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters across our nation and beyond. These heroes step into the unknown—into smoke-filled rooms, collapsing structures, and raging flames—facing moments most of us could never imagine. They witness fear, loss, and devastation, yet still choose to stand strong, to push forward, and to save lives.

Firefighters don’t just fight fires—they fight time, uncertainty, and danger itself. In just minutes, a small flame can grow into a life-threatening blaze. Temperatures in a house fire can reach over 1,000 degrees, and thick smoke can make it impossible to see or breathe. Despite this, firefighters move toward the danger, carrying the weight of responsibility for every life inside.

They train relentlessly. They sacrifice time with their families. They carry the memories of the lives they’ve saved—and the ones they couldn’t. Yet, through it all, their commitment never wavers.

Across our communities and throughout this nation, we stand grateful for every alarm answered, every life protected, and every act of bravery shown.

Got called out to Wilmer, Alabama to do some aluminum work on a fire truck. A cast aluminum bracket had broken, so I had to weld a new plate onto the bottom, drill it out, and bolt everything back down. Got it fixed up and back in service.

First time I’ve ever worked on a fire truck.
