EPA MANDATES COTTON PESTICIDE TRAINING (AUXIN)
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently revised pesticide labels for three dicamba products including Engenia, FeXapan, and XtendiMax, approved for use on dicamba-tolerant cotton varieties. One of these label changes included a mandate that anyone making applications of one of these dicamba products must receive auxin-specific training prior to applying them. This requirement not only applies to licensed applicators, but also includes anyone who is involved with the handling, mixing, and application of these products.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Gaines County will conduct this Texas Department of Agriculture approved auxin-specific herbicide training on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, with registration at 1:00 p.m., and the training will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Gaines County Civic Building located at 402 N. W. 5th Street, Seminole, Texas. There is a $15.00 charge for this training. The Texas Department of Agriculture has approved this training for Private Pesticide Applicators to receive one (1) CEU hour of Laws and Regulations per year.
The training, which was developed by Texas A & M AgriLife Extension Service and allied industries, has been reciprocal approved by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Food and Forestry, and the New Mexico Department of Agriculture, and will allow producers in multiple states to attend one of these trainings to satisfy the regulatory requirements.
One unique part of this training is that unlicensed applicators attending the training must provide their employer’s or supervisor’s pesticide applicator license number before attending and receiving credit for the training.
Individuals with disabilities who require an auxiliary aid, service, or accommodations in order to participate in an Extension sponsored activity are encouraged to contact the Gaines County Extension Office at (432) 758-4006.
