Leaving an abusive relationship is a courageous and transformative step, yet it often comes with a complex mix of emotions, including guilt. Many survivors of domestic violence grapple with feelings of guilt for leaving their partner, fearing they’ve abandoned someone they once cared for. This guilt can be compounded by societal pressures or the manipulation they endured, which can distort their perception of the situation. It’s essential to recognize that prioritizing your safety and well-being is not only your right, but a necessary step toward healing. You deserve to live free from fear and harm, and seeking support from friends, family, or professional counselors can help you process these feelings and rebuild your life. Remember, you are not alone, and it’s okay to put yourself first.

If you or someone you know needs help, contact SABRA Sanctuary at 334-874-8711 or 800-650-6522.
