Selma Police Department’s K9 Ben will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Ben’s vest will be embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 4,652 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $960 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of $1,744-$2,283, weighs an average of 4-5 lb., and comes with a five-year warranty. For more information, or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call 508-824-6978. The Selma Police Department’s K9 Unit would like to welcome Officer Gorman and Officer Chacon to the team. K9 Ben will be partnered with Officer Gorman and K9 Pasco will be partnered with Officer Chacon. Both teams will commence their training in March.

She drew a pictures of K9 Brook and K9 Dodger that passed away after serving/retiring from the City of Selma, CA. Ofc Guzman who was K9 Brook's handler really appreciated the picture. Ofc Cerda who was K9 Dodger's handler appreciated the surprise drawing.

The vest was sponsored by Deann Hobson and Dawn Marando of Pink Biscuit K9s and embroidered with the sentiment “In honor of PBK9s Volunteers”.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c(3) charity located in East Taunton, MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their four-legged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided over 3,500 U.S. made, custom fitted, NIJ certified protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $6.9 million dollars.

The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to participate.

Selma Police Ofc J Holt would like to thank K9s of Valor for helping keep his K9 partner Pasco safe. Ofc Holt received a Narcan kit and Truma kit for K9s. These kits will help Pasco in case he gets hurts during his job in Detention work.
