Thank you to leaders from the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Gila River Indian Community, and Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community for visiting the Tohono O’odham Nation on Friday, Sept. 25.

Delegations representing each of our fellow O’odham tribes joined Nation leadership to tour the land put at risk by the destructive border wall. Leaders got a first-hand look at the damage that has already taken place and what is scheduled to occur, including the thousands of saguaros tagged for removal.

The Tohono O’odham Nation greatly appreciates the support of our fellow tribes as we fight to stop this useless and devastating wall.

NCAI and the Inter Tribal Association of Arizona, represented by the Native American Rights Fund, have filed an amicus brief in Tohono O’odham Nation v. Mullin. The case challenges the federal government’s planned construction of a border wall through the Tohono O’odham Nation’s reservation in Arizona.

The brief explains why trespass claims are essential to protecting Tribal lands and sovereignty. NCAI stands with the Nation as it seeks to hold the federal government accountable.

The desecration of the intaglio at Las Playas caused irreparable damage to an O’odham and American treasure that researchers have found may date back to before the pyramids. All this destruction just to build a useless, expensive wall at a time of record low border crossings and record high national debt.

AZ Republic goes over the reality of border crossing through the Nation- that we have achieved a 95% reduction in unsanctioned crossings. The article outlines how the wall is strictly a political stunt that would destroy our ecosystem and cultural resources and divide families physically.

While the Tohono O'odham Nation struggles to keep a huge border wall from dividing its lands, Texas landowners and officials achieved a pause in construction.

This past Monday, Sept. 14, Chairman Verlon Jose and the Nation’s Attorney General Howard Shanker spoke on the Border Wall and Tribal Sovereignty at ASU’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. It was a frank conversation about the ongoing violations of the Nation’s sovereignty and the federal government’s push for the border wall. The crowd was overwhelmingly supportive of the Nation’s position!
