Yesterday, 14 members of CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps came together at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for our first convening of the 2026-2027 service year! ❤️

In recognition of Hunger Action Month and the AmeriCorps 9/11 National Day of Service, our members spent the afternoon participating in the Food Bank’s Pack-a-Thon.

Together, our CORE crew packed 350 boxes weighing 32.4 pounds each - that’s more than 11,000 pounds of food packed to help support individuals and families across Central Pennsylvania.

Today, on September 11, we’re proud to share how our members honored this National Day of Service by turning remembrance into action and serving alongside one another.

We’re only a couple of weeks into the service year, and it was such a great way to bring everyone together, build connections, and make a real impact in our community.

A huge thank you to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for having us and for the work you do every day to fight hunger across our region. We couldn’t have asked for a better first CORE convening! 💙

Last week, we officially welcomed our newest CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps members and got them ready to begin their 2026-2027 service year! 💚

Orientation included plenty of the important stuff - learning about AmeriCorps, CORE, service expectations, benefits, policies, their roles, and what to expect in the year ahead - but we also made sure there was plenty of time to get to know each other and have some fun.

Enter: Mission: Possible. 😄 Members split into teams - including the Blind Baddies and the Souper Troopers - and worked their way through a series of team challenges designed to get them talking, collaborating, thinking creatively, and, apparently, producing some truly excellent photo evidence along the way.

A few of their missions included creating the cover for their imaginary debut album, using themselves to spell out CORE, tackling some slightly ridiculous team challenges, and filming a 10-second video to “sell AmeriCorps.” So if you're wondering what exactly is happening in some of these photos... now you know. 😂

Beyond the laughs, it was such a great way to watch this new group start connecting as a corps. Our members will be serving at different partner organizations and doing very different work throughout the region, but they're all part of the same CORE team.

We are so excited to have them here and can't wait to see what they accomplish in the communities they'll be serving this year. Welcome to CORE! 🎉💚

The 2026–2027 CORE AmeriCorps term is almost here! 💙💚

We’ve been busy behind the scenes getting everything ready to welcome our new members for orientation on Monday!

This year, CORE will have 19 full year AmeriCorps positions serving across 8 counties throughout central Pennsylvania, and we are so excited to see what this new group will accomplish.

And we’re almost full! 👀 15 of our 19 positions have been filled, with just 4 spots remaining.

Apparently we learned some very important things at this year’s Stronger Service Summit. 😂

We brought AmeriPants back to CORE for our End of Year Celebration, and needless to say, it was a hit.

Yesterday officially marked the end of our 2025–2026 CORE Susquehanna AmeriCorps service term. 💚

We came together for our Celebration of Service to reflect on the year, celebrate our members, and recognize the incredible impact they made across our communities.

This year, 24 CORE AmeriCorps members:

✨ Served more than 17,500 hours
🤝 Served 6,285 people
💚 Supported 2,255 youth
🙌 Recruited 481 volunteers
🏘️ Supported 481 organizations

But the numbers only tell part of the story.

One of the most meaningful parts of our celebration was hearing from site supervisors about the impact members had at their organizations. They shared stories of growth, accomplishments, relationships built, and just how much having an AmeriCorps member meant to their sites.

It was a day full of reflection, recognition, laughter, a few tears, and a whole lot of appreciation for everything this group accomplished.

To our 2025–2026 members: thank you for showing up, serving your communities, and making this year one to remember. We are so proud of you! 💚

Here’s to 17,500+ hours of service and an impact that will last far beyond them. 🎉
