We have seen an increase of electric-assisted bicycles and motorcycles on the city streets.

Washington state recently passed legislation ESSB 6110, which helps clarify the difference between electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes) and electric motorcycles (e-motos).

As of Yesterday, June 11, 2026, an electric-assisted bicycle in Washington must have:
✔️ Have a fully operable pedals
✔️ Have a motor rated at 750 watts or less
✔️ Meet one of Washington’s three e-bike classifications, See RCW 46.04.169

If a vehicle does not meet the legal definition of an e-bike, it may not be regulated under other Washington laws that apply to motorcycles, mopeds, or other motor vehicles.

Riders and parents should know that electric motorcycles operated on public roads may be subject to licensing, registration, insurance, helmets, and other traffic law requirements. Riders and parents can also be held responsible for allowing an unlicensed juvenile to operate a motor vehicle in violation of the state law.

These laws are to protect everyone, riders, drivers, pedestrians that are on our roadways, trails and sidewalks. Please take time to read over the attached information to ensure their vehicle is being operated legally and safely.

We are excited to introduce our two newest hires, Anessa Cordova and Kevin Palomares!

Both will be heading to the Police Academy next week, and we look forward to welcoming them back in September.

Anessa previously worked for Moxee PD before joining Selah PD nearly four years ago. She has been an integral part of our team, working in Axon, records, and evidence. Born and raised in the valley, Anessa studied at Eastern University and is now raising her family here with her husband.

Kevin was born in the lower valley and proudly served as a Marine and currently in the National Guard Reserves. Kevin has his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice, he and his wife are raising their family here in Selah.

This week we celebrate the incredible men and women who answer the call—literally.

Our dispatchers are the steady voice in moments of fear, the connection between crisis and response, and the quiet strength behind every call for service.

We see you. We appreciate you. We couldn’t do this without you.

💙 Thank you for being the heartbeat of public safety.
