BREAKING🚨 Dan Patrick is DEMANDING Texas schools pull 2,193 books, including Elie Wiesel's Holocaust memoir Night, and the graphic novel adaptation of Anne Frank's diary.

The 2,193-title list was compiled by Recover America, a conservative activist group, whose legislative liaison Bonnie Wallace stood beside the lieutenant governor at the Texas Capitol on August 19. Night, Wiesel's account of surviving N**i concentration camps, is objected to because it "contains violence," "controversial religious commentary," and "references to hate."

Anne Frank's Diary: The Graphic Adaptation is on the list. So is All the Light We Cannot See.

So are The Picture of Dorian Gray, Slaughterhouse-Five, Native Son, Hatchet, Flowers for Algernon, and books by Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, John Green and Rick Riordan.

Patrick said he will pass a law docking a school district an entire letter grade in the state's A-F accountability ratings if one book from that list is found on one shelf anywhere in the district.

Texas uses those ratings to seize control of districts and push out elected school boards. At least six have already been taken over.

"We're coming for the books," Patrick said. "We ask that you do it on your own and remove these books."

The Texas Freedom to Read Project pointed out afterward that SB 13, the 2025 library law Patrick keeps invoking, does not actually require districts to remove any book on that list. Districts still choose their own collections.

Patrick says the books are "so filthy, so dirty, so vulgar, so pornographic" that he refused to open them in front of the women in the room.
