These Fishing Workshops are in partnership with Seguin Independent School District and Irma Lewis Outdoor Learning Center.
The primary goal of these Fishing Workshops for Grades 3-6 is to introduce participants to fishing as a fun, accessible hobby while fostering a love for nature, teaching environmental stewardship, and building patience and confidence. These classes aim to teach essential skills like handling gear, casting, and safety.
Participants should wear weather-appropriate, comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and damp. Please pack a water bottle for each of these workshops. Sunscreen and bug spray will be available for use by Seguin Parks and Recreation.
🐟Learn to Fish Workshop on Tuesday, August 4th 2026. Cost is $5 per participant. Register for a fishing workshop in our Nature Series after Friday, May 1st !
• Grades 3 and 4 from 4-5:15pm
• Grades 5 and 6 from 5:30-6:45pm
This workshop will provide an opportunity for youth to learn about the basics of fishing, equipment, knots, fish identification and anatomy, casting and environmental stewardship.
🐟Advanced Fishing Workshop on Tuesday, August 11th 2026. Cost is $5 per participant. Register for a fishing workshop in our Nature Series after Friday, May 1st !
• Grades 3 and 4 from 4-5:15pm
• Grades 5 and 6 from 5:30-6:45pm
This workshop will provide an opportunity for youth to recognize rod/reels, assemble reel/rod and feed the line, complete Palomar and Clinch knots, assemble a basic rig, learn how to cast and set drag, and environmental stewardship.
