Labor Day weekend is here and we all want to have a good time with friends and family. Don't let a DWI crash your plans. Driving intoxicated or under the influence of drugs could cost you money, your life or someone else's life.

Seguin Police officers, in addition to Texas DPS troopers and Guadalupe County Sheriff's officers will be patrolling roadways throughout the holiday weekend monitoring to help keep motorists safe.

The community is invited to attend a memorial ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack on our nation. This year's event on Friday, Sept. 11 will be held at Central Park in downtown Seguin.

Great job to Seguin Police Department Mental Health Officers Martina Wissmann and Gus Jimenez, who recently led a session on “Understanding Mental Health and De-escalation Techniques.”

By sharing knowledge, strengthening communication, and providing practical de-escalation tools, we can continue working together to better serve and support the students and families in our community.

Recognizing the importance of mental health diagnoses, especially in young children, Seguin ISD’s transportation department recently partnered with the Seguin Police Department for specialized training.

Just before the start of classes, Seguin Police Department Mental Health Officers Martina Wissmann and Gus Jimenez led the session, Understanding Mental Health and De-escalation Techniques, and spoke with the district’s bus drivers, who interact with students daily.

The first step to helping a student struggling with mental health is to understand different types of mental illnesses, Wissmann said. Every kid is different, so it’s important to get to know the kids riding those buses, she said.

Labor Day marks the official end of summer, and with the holiday right around the corner, the Seguin Police Department and Texas Department of Transportation reminds motorists to "Drive Sober, No Regrets."

During 2025, approximately 1,254 people died on Texas roads because of impaired driving. And the dangers are even greater if drivers combine alcohol or other illegal substances.

If you've had too much to drink this Labor Day weekend, please let a designated driver get you home safely.

Dove season is here!

As hunters head to the fields, residents—especially those in rural areas—may hear more shotgun fire than usual. In many cases, those sounds are hunters participating in dove season.

Guadalupe County is divided into two hunting zones by IH-10:

📍 North of IH-10 — Central Zone
• Sept. 1–Oct. 25, 2026
• Dec. 11, 2026–Jan. 14, 2027

📍 South of IH-10 — South Zone
• Sept. 1–Oct. 25, 2026
• Dec. 18, 2026–Jan. 21, 2027

⏰ Legal shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.

Hunters, please be safe and courteous to your neighbors. Know your target and what is beyond it, and make sure your shot and pellets remain within the boundaries of the property where you have permission to hunt.

Never trespass or shoot toward homes, businesses, or roadways. Always handle fi****ms safely and responsibly.

The Seguin Coliseum is the place to be on Tuesday, Sept. 29 from 6 to 8 pm to learn everything there is to know about progress being made in the City of Seguin.
