Doorways Food Pantry

Doorways Food Pantry Doorways provides groceries to families from Seekonk who are experiencing food insecurity.

Doorways Food Pantry of Seekonk, MA started in November 2001 with just seven clients. After 15 years the pantry now serves 65 families each week, has more than 100 volunteers and has given out over 1 million pounds of food! At Doorways it’s more than just providing groceries, it is a social experience for both clients and volunteers.

Through the generosity of Town residents, Seekonk Letter Carriers collected more than 2,000 pounds of food during their annual "Fill A Bag ... Help Feed Families" drive!
Once again, the Seekonk Letter Carriers members of the National Association of Letter Carriers saddled up to conduct their long-standing springtime food drive. Thank you to the generosity of the people of Seekonk and the willingness of the letter carriers to undertake the extra work involved in collecting the donations. The Aitken School PTO held another family-friendly “Bingo Night” and used the occasion to also teach the students a lesson in community involvement. Families attending the event were asked to bring non-perishable grocery items for the local food pantry. The Aitken School community does several events each year in support of the Doorways food pantry, and we thank them – and we thank all the other Seekonk schools, who also hold events to support our neighbors. Last year over 5,500 of our neighbors were fed through the Doorways food pantry – all at no cost to our client families, and all made possible by the generosity of the people of Seekonk. Our gratitude is boundless - we are humbled by your support, awed by your generosity, and hopeful for the future. We give thanks for all you do.

Special Thanks to Manager Paula Edwards, her Team and Patrons of located at 1502 Newman Avenue (Baker's Corner), Seekonk for the donation of 60 frozen pizzas! The donation was the result of a promotion celebrating Pi Day which is celebrated annually on March 14th (3/14). It is a day to commemorate the mathematical constant pi (π). Pi is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, approximately equal to 3.14159. It's celebrated because the date 3/14 directly corresponds to the first three digits of pi.).
What better way to celebrate than with a pizza pi !
Your charitable donation brought joy to our Neighbors whom we are blessed to serve! Thank you so very much!

A Sincere word of "Thanks" to the Parishioners of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs for your generous outpouring of food donations in the recent food drive. We also wish to thank the St. Vincent de Paul Society for the hard work in arranging the drive and delivering the collected food. It is estimated that over 650 pounds of food , as well as monetary donations, were collected! Truly outstanding! Over 70 families rely on Doorways on a regular basis, and Doorways relies on people like the parishioners of OLQM. Thank you again. God bless you all!

Service Project to Honor the Memory of the late Diane Fox, Doorways Board Member

For over twelve years, the young women of Girl Scout Service Unit 707 have been performing service projects in our community; in recent years, the girls had conducted toy drives at Christmas and donated the toys to be distributed to Doorways’ families. Their point of contact for these holiday donations was the late Diane Fox; Diane was a key volunteer for Doorways, who organized the ordering and stocking of all food products, plus overseeing Saturday morning food distribution. She was a kind and compassionate woman and a fierce advocate for our neighbors in need – described as “the beating heart of Doorways”. Last year, as the girls reached maturity, Troop 707 decided to disband; but first, they decided to conduct one final service project in honor of their friend. They took the remainder of their troop treasury and spent it all on personal care items – over $2,000 worth of shampoos, soaps, toothpaste and the like. Troop Leader Jenn Ullucci purchased and assembled the items, and Troop Leader Marianne Shymanik sewed 120 cloth zippered bags to be packed for individual distribution. The donation filled a flatbed cart to overflowing. Afterwards, I gave Marianne Shymanik a tour of the Doorways shopping area; I pointed to the one empty shelf in the room and said “That shelf is for personal care items. You’ll notice that it’s empty.” Marianne Shymanik answered me back “It won’t be empty anymore!” Thank you, Girl Scout Troop 707, for your care for your neighbors in need.
