Evergreen 6th graders in Ms. Kilcup's English Language Arts (ELA) class spent time this week completing a spook-tacular escape room challenge. Students practiced analyzing plot elements and figurative language use in a mysterious short story. Through collaboration the teams solved puzzles and riddles that guided them through the forest. The winning teams had to work together and put their literary analysis prowess to the test in order to escape from the haunted forest! Way to soar Eagles! 🦅🎃

🦉 Sixth graders in Mrs. Quatsoe’s class at Mary Purcell Elementary got hands-on with science this week — dissecting owl pellets to uncover what’s inside!

Mrs. Quatsoe collected the pellets herself to make sure every student had one to explore. Inside, students discovered fur, bones, and other remains from small rodents the owls had eaten, digested, and… well… left behind.

Science doesn’t get much more memorable (or fascinating) than this! 🔬✨

Hands-on learning in action! ⚙️🚜⚡️

Students from State Street High School and Sedro-Woolley High School participated in the WAVE (Washington Apprenticeship Vocational Experience) tour last week — exploring real-world careers in the trades through hands-on activities.

Students had the chance to:
🛠 Build metal toolboxes with Western Sheet Metal
⚡️ Learn about becoming an electrician with JATC Electrician Apprenticeship
🚜 Use a virtual backhoe simulator with the Operating Engineers Regional Training Program
💪 Try out a jackhammer and learn about construction from LiUNA Northwest Laborers Training
🚤 Explore boat design technology with Aspen Power Catamarans, learning how strong, lightweight boats are made

These hands-on experiences help students connect classroom learning to future career paths — and the excitement was real!

📚 Samish Elementary students took a special field trip to the Central Skagit Library this week!

Thanks to a partnership between the library and the district, every student is eligible for a free library card. While students could check out one book during their visit, they can borrow up to five books when they return with a guardian — or even request more if they’re extra eager readers!

During the visit, students explored the library’s search system, learned about the color-coded book sections, and enjoyed time in the play corner filled with hands-on activities.

The library is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Reading skills grow stronger with practice — so grab a good book and read together often! 💙📖

🎶 A new melody is echoing through Sedro-Woolley High School! 🎺

On August 28, the Sedro-Woolley Rotary Club generously donated $6,282 to help purchase mariachi instruments for the school’s brand-new Mariachi class.

Last night, students took the stage for their very first Mariachi concert — and they absolutely shined! 🌟

Thank you, Sedro-Woolley Rotary, for your incredible support and for showing what it truly means to give back to the community. Your commitment to our students is beyond inspiring. 💙🎶

The glow was real! ✨

Cascade’s Percussion Ensemble rocked the Halloween Concert with a glowing bucket performance that lit up the night, er, darkened gymnasium. 🥁🎃

Huge applause as well to the Cascade Choir and Orchestra for bringing hauntingly good harmonies and spooky strings to this festive fall favorite! 👻🎶

PIO UPDATE: Life in the Pioneer Days (Sedro-Woolley Edition)

At approximately 7:00 a.m., a vehicle accident led to a power outage affecting portions of the Sedro-Woolley area. While utility crews work diligently to restore service, residents find themselves transported—temporarily—back to the pioneer era.

Thankfully, conditions are slightly improved since the 1890s. Most of us now reside in insulated homes rather than hollowed-out cedar stumps, though our morning routines have taken a hit.

Reports indicate some residents have successfully lit stovetops to boil water for pre-packaged hot chocolate—an acceptable but inferior substitute for coffee.

Despite the lack of power, the indomitable Woolley spirit persists. Youth soccer continues as scheduled, and families are carrying on with resilience, humor, and a newfound appreciation for electricity.

We’re especially grateful it’s a Saturday and not a school day—our teachers and students are enjoying their weekend adventures in the pioneer life from the comfort of home.

Let’s hope the lights—and the coffee makers—come back on soon. ☕️💡

A great place to live, work & play

Sedro-Woolley may be the town that logging built, but it’s the hard work and ingenuity of local businesses that help it flourish today. Sedro-Woolley is considered the gateway to the beautiful North Cascades. Hiking, climbing, biking, camping and many other outdoor adventures make it an amazing place to live. Its close proximity to Interstate 5 is attractive to both residents and businesses alike. But the true treasure of this area are the people who treat one another like family.
