LIKE WAS MEANT TO BE A SURPRISE
Albert Einstein wrote two very familiar quotes to which most people respond positively.
“The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or a hostile universe”
“There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle”.
Are they just intellectual niceties that you accept as true, or do you actually incorporate them into your life? Both are obtainable for all, if they choose to do so. First, there must be an understanding of each of these sentiments in depth and then the question becomes how to actually make them a part of one’s life.
To determine if the universe is friendly or hostile, necessitates a belief that there is a pattern to the universe and that an unfathomable intellect and power created it. Many shy away from using the term God since it carries religious connotations. They use terms such as The Universe, The Great Spirit, The Over Soul, Mother Earth, The Divine… Putting semantics aside, let us agree that to believe the universe is friendly, there must be an awe-inspiring entity that created and continues to create the majesty which abounds all around us. This means that God set up a system that when we choose to become a part of it, involves loving and caring for ourselves and others, and that all things work in our favor. We may not always be aware of how and why, but in the larger scheme of things we are being given opportunities to take the path toward perfection. We are not perfect, but we can love the perfection within us and all other things which are an inseparable part of that perfection. It is a choice. We can choose to believe that the universe is hostile, and then we will reap what we sow, that which is negative and ugly. If we choose to believe it is friendly then we will find miracles all along the way in our lives. It comes down to a second by second choice. Regardless, of the immediate circumstance the challenge is to keep our minds fixed on the belief that the universe is a friendly place, one that works in our best interest and that of every other being. In the end, If that belief should turn out to be wrong, what have we lost. We have lived a life filled with joy, love, thankfulness, and hope. I see no loss in that belief.
