Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. The creek meanders through the park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian

habitat provides the setting and the opportunity for the park to offer a focus on environmental education. Pets are prohibited at this park, as are water activities such as swimming and wading. Please visit our website for more information and park rules. SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

She’s BALD and she’s keeping our park clean!!! 🧼

Turkey vultures have often been referred to as the “clean up crew” when it comes to roadkill. These big birds are considered scavengers, and although they prefer fresh meat, their strong stomach acid allows them to consume the sick, dead, and decaying🦅

This birds baldness is actually considered an adaptation needed for… Sanitary reasons, because these birds dive deep into decaying animal carcasses and it would take a little more than a hair wash day to get all that bacteria out💇‍♀️

We don't just have red rocks, we can also have red water! Oak Creek rose quite a bit during yesterday's big rainstorm⛈️. The extra sediment that was washed into the creek turned it red rock red. Apologies for the video audio, the raindrops hitting the phone were definitely being picked up loudly!

video description: A flooded creek is filmed from a wooden bridge while it's raining. The water is a rich, muddy red that matches the dirt on the creek banks.

🚨MULE DEER WANTED🚨

The resident birds at Red Rock State Park’s hummingbird garden have filed a complaint against a gang of mule deer stealing all their food! Recent footage shows the suspects caught in the act- viewer discretion is advised.

Remember never INTENTIONALLY feed wild mammals- feeding them can cause aggression, increased risk of disease, and nutritional deficiencies through “food conditioning”‼️

Have you seen this lizard before?‼️

The answer is probably yes.🦎

Ornate Tree Lizards are one of the most widespread and frequently observed lizards in Arizona. Often found in habitats with elevations at sea level all the way to around 9,000 feet. That means this lizard is almost everywhere in Arizona!🏜️

This Ornate Lizard just so happened to be in our backyard at Red Rock State Park! 🏡

Would you call this a slither or a swim? 🐍

Gopher snakes are apt swimmers. Primarily dipping their figurative toes in to cool down from the heat, move between food sources, or escape predation! 🥵

The Rangers spotted this scaled sir at the visitor center this weekend! Just remember the only things allowed in the water at Red Rock State park are the native plants and animals including this Gopher snake! 🚫🏊‍♂️
