VOLUNTEER COACHES WANTED FOR GRASSHOPPER YOUTH BASKETBALL

Calling all Parents and Caregivers! Want to make an even bigger impact in your community? We’re looking for awesome volunteer coaches to help with our youth basketball league this season. No experience? No problem! Training, practices, and all the supplies you need will be provided by us. Just bring your energy and encouragement!

The season runs from November 30 through March 6 and volunteers will receive free registration for their child as an added bonus!

What will you do?
• Conduct practice once or twice week (depending on the grade level)
• Games once a week on Saturdays starting January 9
• Help foster skill development, sportsmanship, and a sense of confidence for your team!

Wastewater payments by phone are not able to be processed at this time. You may make payments in person.

Parks and Recreation Dept. phones are also impacted.

The problem extends to a broad area, and we have not been given an estimated time for restoration.

COCONINO AND YAVAPAI COUNTIES TO HOLD VOTER REGISTRATION EVENT: SEPTEMBER 10

Coconino County and Yavapai County representatives will be at City Hall's Vultee Conference Room, located at 102 Roadrunner Drive, on Thursday, September 10 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm to help the public register to vote.

Be sure to bring a valid form of identification and a piece of mail from the address you with the register from.

Coconino and Yavapai County Registrar's Office staff members will also be there to help update voter registrations, request an early ballot, answer voting questions, and help with recording documents. The deadline to register to vote is October 5.

COMMUNITY CONVERSATION - FIRE SAFE SEDONA AND RECREATION CENTER: TODAY!

We are hosting a Community Conversation public meeting to talk about two important topics: Fire Safe Sedona and emergency preparedness, and a brainstorming session for a recreation center. This event will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 4 - 6:30 p.m. at the Community Library Sedona, located at 3250 White Bear Rd.

Fire Safe Sedona and Emergency Preparedness, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
Enjoy a short presentation about the new Fire Safe Sedona program and emergency preparedness. After the session, the City Council will encourage interactive dialogue with participants.
After the discussion, there will be tables with information about evacuation zones, native fire-resistant plants, preparing an emergency Go-Bag, and how to sign up for emergency text alerts.

Recreation Center, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.
The community will hear a short presentation from the Parks and Recreation Department about the possibility of developing a Recreation Center. Participants will then brainstorm ideas about what they’d want to have in a vibrant Recreation Center.

A free art activity will be available for children. Snacks and refreshments will be served.

LAST CHANCE TO APPLY FOR TWO FREE EDUCATIONAL ACADEMIES

The city welcomes applications for two upcoming free community academies: the Citizens Academy and the Community Police Academy.

CITIZENS ACADEMY: The Citizens Academy is for city of Sedona residents to receive a holistic understanding of how local government functions and learn about how the city is tackling topics like workforce housing, transit, traffic and more.
With presentations from City Council and each of the city departments, the academy is a free, nine-session program held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 21 to Nov. 16, 2026 in the Vultee Conference Room at City Hall, located at 106 Roadrunner Dr.

COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY: The Community Police Academy is for city of Sedona residents and members of the local business community to receive firsthand engagement with the Sedona Police Department, have a better understanding of the department’s role within the community and foster a collaborative relationship with residents.

The course curriculum includes patrol procedures, crime scene investigations, traffic control, fi****ms, specialty assignments, volunteers and much more.

Classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m., on Wednesday evenings, starting on Sept. 23, 2026 for eight weeks in the Vultee Conference Room at City Hall, located at 106 Roadrunner Rd. Participants will receive a certificate of completion at Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2026 City Council meeting.

Our Parks and Recreation team invites you to experience the joy, connection, and energy of the Free to Be Me Drum Circle! The next drum circle is on September 19 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm at the Posse Grounds Pavilion, located at 525 Posse Ground Rd.

Rooted in the philosophy of unity through rhythm, this FREE, family-friendly event brings people of all ages and musical backgrounds together to celebrate community and life through music. No drumming experience is necessary, all ages and abilities are welcome, and drums are provided (and you're welcome to bring your own as well!).

WALK, BIKE OR BUS TO PROVIDE FEEDBACK ON THE UPTOWN AREA

Join a walking, biking, or transit tour as a kick-off for the development of the Uptown & Arts Community Focus Area (CFA) Plan. This series of activities will help staff gather community feedback, better understand the challenges and opportunities of the area and shape the development of the CFA Plan.

Walking tour dates:
Saturday, Sept. 19, 9 a.m.
Thursday, Sept. 24, 5:30 p.m.

Biking tour date:
Thursday, Sept.17, 8 a.m.

Transit (Bus) tour dates:
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1 p.m.

Each tour will last 1.5-2 hours and is limited to 10-12 registrants. More dates may be added if enough interest is shown.

Participants will be able to give feedback on the Uptown & Arts CFA region, including Uptown businesses, nearby residential areas, View Walk, the “Y” intersection, Tlaquepaque Arts Village, Gallery Row, Hillside Shopping Center, Brewer Road, and the Arabella Hotel.

The walking tour has the option to walk the whole route or pick and choose among three segments. Each segment highlights elements of Sedona’s built environment - from walkability, bike-ability, and streetscape design. Those joining the biking and bus tours will cover the entire tour.

Our second free Red Dirt Concert Series show of the fall season is Friday, September 11 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at Posse Grounds Pavilion, located at 525 Posse Ground Rd.

Spencer Vandevier has had music at the center of his life since an early age, evolving from childhood singalongs to a lifelong passion for performing, songwriting, and multi-instrumental musicianship. Drawing from deeply personal experiences, his original songs blend introspective storytelling with a distinctive dark folk and world music influence, creating a sound that is haunting, atmospheric, and deeply personal. Based in Arizona, Spencer’s performances invite listeners into a reflective musical journey.

Nolan McKelvey, for more than three decades, has been one of Arizona's most respected Americana singer-songwriters, blending alt-country, bluegrass, classic country, and rock into a sound that's distinctly his own.
