The fire is currently burning in very tough country making access extremely difficult and hazardous for firefighters. Fire managers are planning for shifting weather patterns expected later in the week. Winds will swing to the Southeast, aligning with Oak Creek Canyon and its tributaries as wind gusts reach as high as 45 mph. Firefighters are using indirect containment strategy, preparing lines to protect identified values against the possible effects of this alignment.

Sunday's minimal fire growth allowed firefighters to begin establishing a long-term strategic suppression plan. Additional resources have been added to the fire both to engage in the fire fight and to stage for initial attack if needed.

Protecting our community never stops.

Sedona Fire Station 3, Station 6, Station 4 and Chief officers were dispatched to a house on fire earlier this morning and successfully stopped the fire from progressing into the attic and causing further loss to the home. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

As a part of our collaborative effort, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office is providing a valuable service to our communities by escorting residents and visitors into the evacuated areas to recover their much needed belongings.

POCKET FIRE UPDATE: A formal closure order is in effect for the area surrounding the fire.

A number of campgrounds, day use sites, trails and trailheads are inaccessible at this time due to firefighting operations.

Forest visitors should abide by all posted closures and seek alternative recreation and travel arrangements.

Growth of the Pocket Fire is being monitored by aviation resources. Ground resources continue to work their way into steep and dangerous terrain.

Firefighter and public safety remain our highest priority.

POCKET FIRE UPDATE: Evacuations are in effect and state Route 89A is closed.

Northern Arizona Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire this morning and Southwest Area Incident Management Team is en route to assume command shortly after.
