Today, we remember the courage and sacrifice of the Soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. Their actions exemplified the Army Values and set a standard of service that continues to inspire generations of Soldiers.

Captain Sowell of the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade shares what D-Day means to him:

“When I think of D Day, I think of the army values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. In serving our country in the same way as all those thousands of soldiers did 82 years ago. I'm humbled to be able to serve in a small way, at least to carry on that legacy of honor and selfless sacrifice. To you remember those who have gone before and try to live in a way that reflects the honor that they carried”

CAMP ATTERBURY, Ind. — Annual Training is being conducted by Soldiers of the 35th Infantry Division at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, where skills are being sharpened, readiness is being built, and the warrior ethos is being carried forward by those who wear the Santa Fe patch today.

On this day, 82 years after the beaches of Normandy were stormed by Allied forces, a pause was taken by those same Soldiers to honor the sacrifice of those who came before — the men by whom oceans were crossed and everything was given so that freedom could endure.

The 35th Infantry Division, known as the "Santa Fe Division," is defined by a legacy that was forged in the fires of both World Wars.

That legacy will be felt today not only in memory, but in the dedication and professionalism that is displayed by its Soldiers at Camp Atterbury.

Their mission is continued. Their memory is kept.

This drill weekend, we’re proud to recognize the promotion of SGT Brewer to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Brewer has been with the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade for three years, serving as a 25 Bravo on the server team. Throughout that time, he has demonstrated strong technical skills and leadership within his section.

A meaningful highlight of the promotion was being patched by his wife, Amber, and their child, making the moment especially memorable for his family.

When asked about his experience at the 35th, Brewer shared that there are “great leaders and peers to look up to,” reflecting the strong culture within the unit.

Congratulations to SSG Brewer on this well-earned promotion. We look forward to his continued success.

This Summer, we say farewell to CW4 Talken as she prepares to retire from the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Chief Talken has been with the 35th CAB since March 2024, bringing a wealth of experience from over two decades of service, having served in the Army since February 2002. During her time here, she served as a Human Resources Technician, advising the Commander and staff on personnel readiness, processes, and policies. Playing a vital role in maintaining the unit’s effectiveness.

She leaves with this advice for new Soldiers: take advantage of every opportunity and benefit the Army has to offer.

We thank Chief Talken for her commitment, leadership, and lasting impact on the unit, and we wish her all the best in this next chapter.

This drill weekend, we’re proud to spotlight one of our outstanding soldiers from the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade.

Cadet Hunt has been with the 35th CAB for over a year and has served in the Army for two years through ROTC. She joined the Army National Guard to take advantage of educational benefits for college, earning a scholarship along the way.

Outside of her military service, Cadet Hunt is a student at the University of Central Missouri, where she is pursuing a degree in economics with a minor in military science.

Her advice to those considering joining the Army: it provides valuable real-world experience that you won’t find anywhere else.

Looking ahead, Cadet Hunt is excited to continue meeting people from diverse backgrounds throughout her Army career while also working toward a future in economics on the civilian side.

We appreciate her dedication and look forward to seeing all she accomplishes.
