What a Great Day at the Station!

This morning, we had the pleasure of welcoming a class from Dimmitt Middle School to our station for a special behind-the-scenes look at the fire service.

The students arrived with positive attitudes, thoughtful questions, and a genuine eagerness to learn about what it takes to serve in the fire service. Our crew enjoyed sharing information about firefighting, emergency medical services, station life, and the many ways firefighters help keep our community safe.

What made this visit especially meaningful was learning that this was the class's very first fire station tour. We were honored to be their introduction to the fire service and to help create a positive and memorable experience.

One of the highlights of the visit was giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn about fire safety and the tools firefighters use every day. One lucky student even got to use our training water fire extinguisher to help put out an imaginary fire, using a safety cone as the target. 🧯

We hope the visit helped students become more familiar with their local fire department and feel confident knowing that firefighters are a trusted community resource. Most importantly, we hope they left knowing that the fire service is always here to help and that they can feel safe turning to us in an emergency.

Thank you to the students and staff of Dimmitt Middle School for spending part of your day with us. Your curiosity, excitement, and engagement made the visit truly special.

And who knows? We may have met a few future firefighters, EMTs, or community leaders in the making! 🚒

Thank You for an Incredible Diversity & Recruitment Workshop!

This past Saturday, May 30, the King County Fire Chiefs Association proudly welcomed more than 150 attendees to the semi-annual Diversity & Recruitment Workshop. This event provided an opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to learn about careers in the fire service and EMS, connect with industry professionals, and explore pathways to a rewarding future in public safety.

We were inspired by the enthusiasm, curiosity, and passion demonstrated by everyone who attended. The energy throughout the day was truly remarkable, and it was exciting to meet so many individuals eager to learn, grow, and serve their communities.

Events like these highlight the importance of creating accessible opportunities within the fire and EMS professions while fostering a workforce that reflects the diverse communities we proudly serve.

Thank you to all who participated, engaged in meaningful conversations, asked thoughtful questions, and took the next step in exploring a career in public safety. Your interest and commitment made this event an overwhelming success.

A special thank you to Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue College for their partnership, hospitality, and support in making this event possible. We are grateful for your shared commitment to creating opportunities and inspiring the next generation of fire service and EMS professionals.

We look forward to continuing this important work by building connections, expanding opportunities, and supporting future firefighters and EMTs. We can't wait to see everyone again for the next Diversity & Recruitment Workshop in Fall 2026!

Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we are building a stronger, more inclusive future for the fire and EMS profession.

Today we pause to remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is not just a long weekend. It is a day set aside to honor the people who did not come home, and to recognize the families who carry that loss every day.

From all of us at King County Fire District 20, thank you to those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who continue to keep their memory alive.

We remember. We honor. We are grateful.

KCFD20 spent Wednesday at Sea-Tac Airport for a full-scale aircraft emergency exercise. Yes, we know it’s SEA now, but come on, tradition is what the fire department does. =kingdome.

The awesome Port of Seattle Fire Department hosted the exercise, bringing together fire departments, ambulance crews, Medic One, airport teams, law enforcement, emergency management, dispatchers, volunteers, and evaluators from across the region.

It was a good opportunity to train together, practice coordination, and make sure everyone knows how to work as one system if a major incident ever happens.

Big thanks to Port of Seattle Fire and everyone who participated.

Yesterday, our crew had the opportunity to visit Young Minds Development Academy and spend time with some of the youngest members of our community! 🚒

We were honored to be part of their Community Helpers class, where the kids learned about what firefighters do and how they help keep our community safe. From fire safety lessons to exploring gear and equipment, the students were full of excitement, smiles, and great questions.

Thank you to the staff and students at Young Minds Development Academy for the warm welcome and for allowing our crew to spend the day with your amazing kids. The future of our community is bright! 👨‍🚒🔥

To all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day.

So much of what you do happens quietly in the background. Your effort, care, and daily work may not always get the attention it deserves, but when it’s missing, everyone feels it. You are often the reason people feel cared for, supported, comfortable, and loved.

One day of saying thank you is not enough. We all need the reminder that the things you do every day matter, and that you are appreciated more than you probably hear.

To every mom, grandmother, stepmom, foster mom, mother figure, and anyone carrying that role in someone’s life, thank you. Today is for recognizing you, but the gratitude should carry far beyond Mother’s Day.

Some people think you can just fake training and some people wish it wasn’t their turn to be the training aid. But then there’s Firefighter Hopper who, cannot, hide his excitement to help his crew with quarterly trauma training. We officially title this photo “Selfless Acts Abounding”😉. What would you call it?
