School is back in session, which means more kids are walking, biking, and waiting for buses throughout our neighborhoods.
Please give yourself a little extra time and stay alert, especially during the morning and afternoon school commute. Slow down in school zones, watch carefully at crosswalks and intersections, and be prepared for children to enter the roadway unexpectedly.
A few extra seconds of patience behind the wheel can make a big difference.
Please help us keep our kids safe as they head back to school.

At 10:42 p.m., multiple 911 calls were received reporting a house fire in the 12000 block of Renton Avenue S.

At 10:47 p.m., the first engine, aid car, and rehab unit arrived from the Skyway Fire station and found heavy fire on the first floor and rear exterior of a two-story home with a basement.

Skyway Fire crews were joined by firefighters from Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and Renton Regional Fire Authority, along with King County Medic One. Firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire while crews searched the home. The fire was extinguished at 11:17 p.m.

All three residents were able to get out of the home before firefighters arrived. Dogs in the backyard were also secured safely away from the fire. One resident was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The King County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control and closed Renton Avenue S for approximately two hours during the response. Puget Sound Energy and Seattle City Light responded to secure utilities.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.

King County fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire.

We had an awesome time at Talley High School’s Otter Days event! 🦦🚒

It was great connecting with Talley High School staff, teachers, volunteers, students, and parents throughout the event. We enjoyed sharing a little more about King County Fire District 20, the fire service, and the opportunities available for students to learn more about what we do.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, asked questions, and spent some time with us!

Smoke from wildfires combined with hot temperatures can create greater health risks than either hazard alone. With smoky skies and warm weather expected across the Puget Sound region, now is a good time to take a few extra precautions.

If possible, stay indoors with clean, filtered air, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest and smokiest parts of the day, drink plenty of water, and consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask if you need to be outside for extended periods.

Check current air quality conditions before heading outdoors at https://www.airnow.gov.

Stay informed, take care of yourself, and check in on family members, neighbors, and others who may be more sensitive to heat and smoke.

King County Fire District 20 extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters of Jake Johnson.

Our hearts are with Lacey Firefighters IAFF Local 2903, Mountain View Firefighters Local 3186, and everyone grieving this tremendous loss. We honor Firefighter Johnson’s service and the lasting impact he made on those who knew and served alongside him.

Rest easy, Brother.

With deep sadness, Lacey Firefighters IAFF Local 2903 shares the news of our brother Jake Johnson’s passing.

Jake joined Local 2903 as a lateral firefighter after serving with Mountain View Firefighters Local 3186. He quickly became a trusted teammate, a friend, and an important part of our family.

We are deeply grateful for the support shown to Jake, his family, and our members. The prayers, messages, and acts of kindness have meant more than we can express.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Olympia Firefighters Local 468, Tumwater Firefighters Local 2409, and the medical teams at Providence St. Peter Hospital and Harborview Medical Center for their care and compassion.

Our hearts remain with Jake’s family, friends, and all who are grieving his loss. We ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.

Memorial service details will be shared when available.

Jake, you will always be remembered as our brother, teammate, and friend. Your Local 2903 family will carry your memory with us.

Thank you to everyone in our community who joined us for our CPR Emergency Readiness Class! Your willingness to learn these lifesaving skills helps make our community stronger, safer, and better prepared for the unexpected.

A special thank you to our amazing firefighter, Kate, for leading such an informative and hands-on class. We truly appreciate the time, knowledge, and passion you shared with everyone in attendance.

Every skill learned from recognizing an emergency, performing CPR, and knowing what to do until first responders arrive has the potential to make a difference.

We loved seeing our community come together to learn, ask questions, and invest in keeping one another safe.
