I’m excited to join Next City and Local Progress for The Home Field Advantage: Local Power in Mega-Event Governance.

As a proud Local Progress member, I’ll be joining fellow local leaders to share lessons from governing through the World Cup: what worked, what didn’t, and how cities can better use their power to protect workers, tenants, and communities, demand transparency and accountability, and make sure residents have a real say in what happens before, during, and after a mega-event.

As Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of WA announces restored service to all King County kiddos, we’re getting ready to proclaim September 25 as “Dolly Parton 9 to 5 Day” in King County!

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up surrounded by stories, imagination, and the lifelong benefits that reading can unlock. I’m so thankful that the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is expanding access to monthly books to children across King County, continuing Dolly’s incredible legacy of giving kiddos the tools to build literacy, dream, and learn.

The 2026 Flood Reduction Grant Program awarded $2,030,000 in funding to the following projects located in District 8:
• Cultivate South Park received $250,000 for the Nature-based Urban Designs Project
• ECOSS received $400,000 for the Duwamish Valley Industrial Greening: ECOSS – Phase 3
• King County DNRP Water & Land Resources Division received $500,000 for the White Center Ponds Cells 2 and 3 Stormwater Retrofit
• Seattle Parks Foundation received $400,000 for the Duwamish Valley and Thornton Creek Industrial Greening
• Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust received $480,000 for the North Maury Bulkhead Removal.

Great News, Vashon-Maury Island!

King County Permitting Acting Director Mark Rowe will hold monthly, on-island office hours beginning next Tuesday, Sept. 8!

Those who schedule an appointment will be able to meet with him to discuss any questions or issues related to the permitting process.
Here is his schedule:

Days: Second Tuesday of every month, beginning Sept. 8

Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Location: Vashon Island Chamber of Commerce (17141 Vashon Highway SW #101)
