North Helpline

North Helpline North Helpline works to make sure our neighbors have food on the table and a roof overhead.

North Helpline is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to combating food and housing insecurity in
North Seattle. We envision a future where all our neighbors have food on their table and a roof overhead. North Helpline was started in 1989 by a small group of volunteers who noticed that many of their neighbors were not able to pay their rent, cover their utility bills and put food on the table be

cause their paychecks didn't stretch that far. These friends began collecting food and financial support to distribute to those most in need in their community. The initial group grew to 600+ volunteers who contribute over 2,000 hours of work monthly. North Helpline now provides critical human services to over 1,700 clients each week in an effort to reduce the impact of hunger and poverty in the Greater North Seattle Area including Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, and parts of Bothell and Kenmore.

Purchasing food from local farmers is core to North Helpline’s ability to buy fresh and healthy food for our neighbors. Buying locally supports our farmers but also helps stretch our funds. Tomatoes that cost $25 a crate in January are now costing us $50 even at wholesale markets.

Fortunately, North Helpline’s partnerships with farmers help us curb these costs to bring more delicious and nutritious food to our neighbors. We are thankful for all our farming partners for being a part of our North Helpline community. 🧡

With your generous donation, we can purchase even more summer produce from local farms in Washington state - make a gift today!

Lorena and Francisco started out with three acres in 2017, growing raspberries and strawberries. By 2023 they’d more than doubled their acreage and are investing in fruits and blueberries, but the life of a farmer is never certain. With four children and income only from their farm, the farm is a family business with three generations pitching in. They credit their partnerships with food banks for providing the stability that has helped them grow.

This spring, we ask you to join us in deepening our partnerships with farmers like Francisco and Lorena. Please consider making a generous donation to North Helpline to allow us to expand our summer food budget.

Pack the Park Fun Run | Fighting Food Insecurity One Step at a Time 🏃

The 10th Annual Pack the Park Fun Run is on May 9, 2026 at Animal Acres Park, benefiting food security programs!

For the past decade, this event has brought our community together to move with purpose and make a real impact. Food insecurity is rising. More local families are struggling to put healthy meals on the table. But together, we can change that.

Pack the Park is a fun, family-friendly event where every step you take helps provide food and support to kids and families right here in our community.

North Helpline will be tabling at this event and sharing about our food access and client services - stop by!
