Airlift Northwest

Airlift Northwest Airlift Northwest is the region’s premier air critical care transport service.

We believe all people deserve high-quality critical care, no matter where they are. When a housefire in Alaska claimed the lives of three children before they could reach the right type of care, a determined UW physician had a world-changing idea: If patients are losing their lives because they can't access proper care in time, why not fly the proper care to the patients? Thus, Airlift Northwest,

the region's first flying Intensive Care Unit, was born here at UW Medicine. Years later, it still defines how care is delivered in the air and keeps the region within a short flight of the health care they need. Staffed with the highest level of critical care nurses and medical professionals in the country, teams are ready to handle everything from Advanced Cardiac Life Support to neonatal resuscitation, all while flying patients to the most advanced specialty care available. We are a revolutionary idea, resulting from a medical culture, driven to find innovative ways of delivering the highest standard of patient care, even if it takes flying there.

Dylan P. recently caught our aircraft heading into Quincy, Washington!

Located in the heart of Grant County and the Columbia Basin, Quincy is surrounded by some of Washington’s most productive agricultural land. Whether we’re headed to a large city or a rural community, our crews are ready to respond wherever they’re needed.

International medical transports often require additional coordination and planning. Airlift Northwest recently expanded our capabilities to include patient transports from Canada.

This summer, our team completed our first flight out of Canada, repatriating a U.S. citizen from a remote location. The transport required close coordination with BC Emergency Health Services and BC Ambulance Services to safely bring the patient back to the United States.

We’re grateful for the collaboration of our Canadian partners and proud of the teamwork that made this milestone transport possible.

This spring, Airlift Northwest had the opportunity to provide obstetric (OB) education to the teams at Olympic Medical Center and Clallam County EMS.

The training was led by Dr. Allen Ghareeb, a UW Medicine OB Fellow, who shared his expertise in the management of obstetric emergencies. Opportunities like these strengthen collaboration between our teams and help ensure patients receive the highest level of care when every minute counts.

Thank you to Olympic Medical Center and Clallam County EMS for your commitment to continuing education and excellence in patient care!
