“Strive to build friendships wherever you can and seize every opportunity that comes your way. They open doors in ways you don’t expect later in life.” - CDT Huang

Name: CDT Huang
Major: General Biology
Hometown: Cleveland OH & Hsinchu, Taiwan
Branch: Active Duty - Medical Corps
Uniformed Services University

Recently, Cadet Huang earned 4th place out of 23 Chinese Mandarin linguists at the National Guard Best Linguist Competition, representing the 341st Military Intelligence Battalion, Washington Army National Guard.

This accomplishment adds to an already impressive list of achievements, including an AMEDD internship, Ranger Challenge, the Norwegian Ruck March, and Air Assault School, where she distinguished herself as the only female cadet to graduate in her class.

Her drive, however, does not stop there. Cadet Huang will branch into the Active Component with aspirations of becoming a surgical oncology physician and earning the Flight Surgeon badge after completing medical school. Through her service, she has found a strong sense of belonging and a supportive community that continually challenges her to grow, push past her limits, and pursue goals once thought unattainable.

Relentless effort. Unbreakable grit. Husky strength.

Competing with only 10 cadets against teams of 11+ and with three first time Ranger Challenge cadets, KHB fought hard through each event and earned 8th place out of 34 teams! 🎉

The team showed resilience, heart, and the warrior spirit that defines our Kinnear Husky Battalion.

Shoutout to Zaner and MS2 for doing lots of heavy lifting that drove the team forward, MS2 Cali for driving motivation, and Qin for keeping the team unified and mission focused.

Fought hard, gained valuable experience, and set the foundation for an even stronger fight next year!

Congratulations!! 👏🏻

It’s almost ENDEX KHB! Wishing everyone a great weekend. If you haven’t already, take a moment to wish your Ranger Challenge buddies good luck at competition! 👏🏻

Say hello to CDT Owens!
Coming from down south in Houston, Texas, she had her sights set on UW because of all the geographic beauty and health care opportunity that Seattle has to offer. She deeply values reflecting on how to grow as not just a person but as a leader, so seeing the value that ROTC could add to her life made joining a no-brainer.
Outside of staying active with ROTC and the Husky Pickleball team, she is hoping to major in Public Health with career aspirations in the field of dentistry. She is passionate about advocacy, serving as a member on the Husky Health Center Advisory Board, and in this new quarter will serve as a FEEDBACK mentor for underrepresented students in the Toppen*sh School District.
She finds great joy in taking long walks, coffee shop hunting, and reading fantasy.

Throwback to past FTXs as we gear up for the next one in just two weeks. Dialing in land navigation, pushing through the O-course, and sharpening warrior skills as we prepare to train, lead, and execute.

Coming from a military family, CDT Barringer has spent much of his life moving across states and countries—from Washington to South Korea—before eventually calling Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi home. He credits his parents and four younger siblings as the primary influences behind his decision to return to Washington and join the program. He joined the UW ROTC to push beyond his limits, develop his voice as a leader, and explore the opportunities the military can provide. Outside of the program, he enjoys running, experimenting with new recipes through cooking and baking, and discovering all that Washington has to offer.
Intending to major in Environmental Science, he connects with the world around him through hiking, skiing, and actively seeking opportunities to advocate for others on important environmental and social issues.
As an athlete, he has spent much of his life participating in sports such as track and field and cross country. He is also deeply involved with the UW Speech and Debate team, where he continues to develop his public speaking and argumentative skills and has achieved notable success in recent tournaments across the Pacific Northwest.
