FAN PAGE of the Pike Place Pig Rachel Pike Place Pig "Rachel" An homage to "the pig". A place for us all to post our "pig pics". for groups to meet up at The Market.

So...today I went to Pike Place Market (known as just "the Market" to us locals) for lunch with a friend and my sister and watching all the kidlets AND adults having their photo taken with the World Famous Pike Place Pig, had me wonder'n..."hmmmm, just how many hundreds, thousands, millions even, have had their pic taken with that oddly loveable and most attractable pig?!" And thus this page was

born. Note: "The Pig" is OFTEN the spot/marker for "Let's meet at 'the pig'..." The History - Pike Place Market's unofficial mascot, Rachel, a bronze cast piggy bank that weighs 550 pounds, has been located since 1986 at the corner of Pike Place under the "Public Market Center" sign. Rachel was designed by local artist Georgia Ge**er and modeled after a pig (also named Rachel) that lived on Whidbey Island and was the 1977 Island County prize-winner. Rachel receives roughly US$6,000–$9,000 annually in just about every type of world currency, which is collected by the Market Foundation to fund the Market's social services. ENJOY...AND PLEASE POST YOUR PIG PICS...FOR US ALL TO SHARE IN THE ENERGY OF "RACHEL" TOGETHER.
