It was a beautiful day for our Change of Command!

This morning, we said goodbye to Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Bower as Commanding Officer of Station Seattle and welcomed in Lt. Stacie Sherry as the new skipper.

Mr. Bower reported to Station Seattle in July of 2022 to command the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Area’s largest small boat station. He is only the second U.S. Coast Guard officer who is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute to command a small boat station. He will now head to University of California-San Diego for post-graduate education.

Lt. Sherry comes to us from Maritime Safety and Security Team-Cape Cod, where she served as the operations officer and facilitated the deployments for the 53-member Deployable Special Forces unit. She enlisted in the Coast Guard in 2007 and served as an operations specialist (OS) before attending Officer Candidate School and commissioning in 2019.

Capt. Mark McDonnell, Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound commander, presided over the ceremony. During the event, he presented Bower with the Coast Guard Commendation Medal.

Thanks for your three years of service to the mariners of the Pacific Northwest, Lt. Cmdr. Bower! Fair winds and following seas! And welcome to the Emerald City, Lt. Sherry!
