We are officially less than a month from our Gather for Goals soccer watch party and festival in the heart of White Center!

As the soccer world descends on the Pacific Northwest next month, King County Department of Local Services and White Center Pride Committee are teaming up to bring together community to celebrate in a way that’s uniquely White Center.

On Friday, June 26, they will hold a free community watch party and festival called “Gather for Goals” along 16th Avenue SW in the heart of White Center.

The watch party is a chance for community members to enjoy the world’s largest soccer competition without leaving their community or venturing into the neighboring host city.

It’s also a chance to remind the world that White Center respects and appreciates people of all backgrounds.

Between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., matches from the world’s largest soccer competition will be shown on one of five giant screens along a three-block stretch of 16th Avenue SW, starting north just past SW Roxbury Street and extending south to SW 100th Street.

The matches taking place on June 26 that will be shown include Norway vs. France; Senegal vs. Iraq; Cape Verde vs. Saudi Arabia; and Uruguay vs. Spain.

So, remember to mark your calendars for June 26 and prepare to celebrate every goal with your community in White Center.

Last week, staff from the Department of Local Services held a White Center “Glow Up” event in which we highlighted recent improvements made along this important corridor in unincorporated King County.

Our team gave a guided tour of several pedestrian and road improvements along 16th Avenue Southwest. They got to see a freshly painted rainbow sidewalk done in collaboration with White Center Pride.

And lastly, attendees got to see the new lights that have been strung up over the sidewalk in front of several businesses!

Thank you to everyone who made the event amazing!

This Memorial Day, the Department of Local Services remembers the countless men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country.

Come watch us slay!

The Department of Local Services is ready for tonight’s White Center “Glow Up” event – a chance to celebrate and learn more about several improvements along 16th Avenue SW.

The celebration begins at 7:30 p.m., during the Rat City Art Walk at the corner of 16th Avenue SW and SW 98th Street near the community kiosk.

Join us for a walking tour to highlight several recent investments we’ve in this part of unincorporated King County.

We’re talking lights. We’re talking pedestrian improvements. We’re talking rainbow sidewalks.

In other words, it’s giving.
