Seattle Community Police Commission

Seattle Community Police Commission The Community Police Commission builds common ground among communities affected by policing in Seattle. View the City’s policies at http://seattle.gov/digital.

The Seattle Community Police Commission (CPC) is a civilian commission with a mandate to represent community interests and recommend changes to the Seattle Police Department's (SPD) policies and practices. The CPC is unique - Seattle is the only city in the nation with a commission of this kind. The commissioners represent the diversity of Seattle and include civil rights and civil liberties advoc

ates, business and faith leaders, mental health and housing providers, and representatives from the two SPD unions. All have experience directly relevant to police reform. The City of Seattle established the CPC after signing a settlement agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to reform SPD practices. The CPC's 15 volunteer commissioners were confirmed by the City Council in March 2013.

For us, showing up isn’t a one-day thing. Accountability that’s truly community-centered means being present for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities year-round: celebrating openly, listening closely, and carrying those voices into the work we do every day. Built by community, accountable to community. We’ll always show up.

Yesterday, CPC Executive Director Eci Ameh brought our story to the Seattle City Council Public Safety Committee. From the 2010 organizing that demanded federal review, to the 2017 ordinance that made us permanent, our mandate has always come from community. That’s still where the work begins, and where it returns.

Community at the heart. Built by community, accountable to community. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏿

📡 CPC at the Communication Center

We visited the 911 Communication Center to get a closer look at what happens when a call comes in. Phones ringing, screens moving, decisions happening in real time. We asked questions, listened closely, and saw how the process works behind the scenes.

Trans Day of Visibility 🏳️‍⚧️

Trans communities deserve to be seen, heard, and safe.

Today, we celebrate trans communities-their resilience, leadership, and joy-and honor their experiences across Seattle. We recommit to centering those experiences in conversations about public safety, accountability, and community care.
